I am English and USED to be proud of my country for all the great things we did in the past: Shakespeare, Newton, Churchill, Elgar, Beatles, Dickens, the BBC, Monty Python, our inventions, our scientits, the NHS, our sense of fair play, our trusting attitude, I could go on.

I am now ashamed and embarressed by our country: Crime, drugs, corrupt politicians, destructive newspapers, chavs, immigration and asylum abuse, personal debt, awful inner cities, benefit and tax fraud, John Presscot, instant celebrities (ie Big Brother), under-funded police service, "happy slapping", "joy riders", I could go on

We cannot even find a good enough Englishman to manage our football team.

vehelpfulguy has echoed my feelings almost exactly, obviously the blame has to be put at the feet of various goverments, but I think, mostly at the feet of this goverment, they seem hell bent on the destruction of this country, (England), and because of this, people who were proud of this 'green and pleasant land', are, as in the above post, ASHAMED of it.

Sadly, I agree.

... Because Europe is the greatest Nation in the world!
