Leading on from Kval's thread about films and TV. What's the worst book that you've ever read?
I have two.

Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - what an utter borefest.
We Need to Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver - dozens of pages full of verbal diarrhoea.

Your turn.....

Reservoir 13. Drifts along and ends 'with a whimper'.
too many to decide. Haver to say I never finish a stinker though. Life is too short.
Secret History - Donna Tartt

My god it's boring - it goes on & on & on about absolutely burger all
50 shades of Grey hands down. I flicked through it to see what all the fuss was about and laughed myself sick at it's dear vanillary little self. Ugggghhh.
Sorry- Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor - winner of the 2017 Costa Novel Award!! It hooks you in and leaves you dangling.
I could never read a worst book - first couple of pages and I wouldn't finish.
I had to read mine - book group choice :((
Not the worst by any means, but I had Dracula and Frankenstein on my Kindle, and I felt that both could have been 50 to 60 pages shorter. Bram Stoker in particular kept going round and round in circles. Fortunately I didn't pay for them.
Trouble is jennyjoan, you don't always know it's going to be a let down till right at the end. Like a lot of modern TV serials.
Same here SD - trying my best to trawl through Swimming Lessons by Claire Fuller which is a very new book. Be interesting to see what the rest of the reading group as I find it so boring that I'm skipping quite a lot.
50 Shades. Thought I'd read it to see what all the fuss was about...managed a couple of chapters before losing the will to live!
Dave, that's why i will NEVER join a book club.....mind you my friend belongs to one and the first question asked at the beginning of every meeting is if anyone has actually started the book.
It has to be "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. To sell over a million copies of self-aggrandising yet depressing chatter is certainly an achievement, but I was disappointed that Dawkins spends so little time searching for truth and a lot of time talking about himself, which is not only boring but a travesty as the book masquerades as an academic work, when it really is little more than the exposure of Dawkin's own bigotry. Also, any of Donald Trump's books on personal success are a waste of time, for the same reasons.
I don't read much but the worst book I finished I hated so much I have never wanted to read anything by him again and that was First Love Last Rights by Ian McEwan, short stories. Nasty depressing stories. Watched Atonement, another nasty depressing story.

That's the reason why I stopped going to a book club.

50 Shades, forgot about that pile of rubbish. I also didn't like Gone Girl, massive plot holes, which I didn't like.

Dracula is one of my all time favourites, took me a bit of time to get used to the way Bram Stoker wrote, though.
My eldest brother qualified for grammar school which was a big thing 70 years ago and he told me he never read a book from cover to cover in his life.

I used to be an avid reader but not now - don't really have time. Busy through the day and off to bed - watch a little TV - then slumber.

oh it was rites, still horrible

Chapter one of,"Return Of The Native," Thomas Hardy.
