Pied Piper -you could say that about all Art then -maybe you do. Just because you are incapable, or unwilling try and understand , does not make those who are willing and open minded 'gullible' Someone is much more gullible downloading a game 'app' thinking its for free., or maybe paying $25000 for a handbag because it has a 'name'
Hi Retro - just noticed you're back x

I must agree with your view.

Personally, I prefer to say that I don't understand something put forward as art - rather than to use the blanket judgement that it is meaningless, and anyone who thinks otherwise is either pretentious or stupid.

That seems a rather high-handed attitude.
Never really liked performance art - doesn't mean it's without value? Or that all of it has to be good?
There are some weird stuff parading around calling itself art .
Depends on your definition of art .

If that is someones definition of 'art' , then that's definitely the type of art that i would go and see .

Some people have made a nice living persuading others that their load of
'***' ( in my opinion ) is art

insert the word *not* after definitely in the above
I think the half of the art is thinking of it first. The other half is justifying it to gullible art collectors.

Just because the Emperor was naked didn't mean the tailoring industry was defunct.
PiedPiper - I do not like Tracey Emin's work (messed up bed) but that does not mean I think those that go view it are gullible, and neither are you 'thick' for not liking it either. Art should be provocative -stir up emotions even it those emotions are of disgust/horror/ incredulity.
Ab Editor -exactly -blanket comments about 'modern Art' consisting of black boxes on red backgrounds or modern ballet involving men dressed in very little gyrating with bin lids is a gross exaggeration -there are some good, some moderate and some that one just looks or listens and really can't understand if the Artist has some deep meaning hidden or just having a bad day. However, I don't think these high profile Artists do this stuff to 'take the P ' as has been suggested.
Are you telling us that there are people out there paying good money to see this nonsense ?
whiskeyron - //Are you telling us that there are people out there paying good money to see this nonsense ? //

No, we are telling you that there are people out there paying good money to appreciate this art.

I don't understand it either - but that doesn't invalidate it as art.
Then I really fear for the human race.
