I thought that we were making some headway with the equality of the sexes. Much has changed since I was at school and was allowed to study 'girl' things like sewing and cooking (I am useless at both).

So I don't understand where this decision comes from. There is always the possibility that the Daily Mail has twisted an incident or two into a news story - but surely a reputable newspaper wouldn't do such a thing. :-)

Daily Mail and reputable newspaper shouldn't appear in the same sentence.
It was in fact a sad day when girls were allowed to join the scouts, it creates too many problems, special washing and toilet facilities, special camping accommodation, special activities and games. etc etc.

And before anyone goes on about equality amongst the sexes, there will never be equality while the Guides ban boys and male leaders from joining their organisation.

Then perhaps it should be banned from the news section as well?

If this is true then it is wrong. Equal opportunities should work both ways.

I don't agree with your first paragraph - but it doesn't matter because the girls are there already. I am sure that my niece is a scout - or was it a cub? She is almost 11.

****maggiebee - I am away to finish reading my Scottish Mail on Sunday. I read 'some' of it but not the sport or politics.

The Scouts take on lots of girls these days, for precisely this reason, and very successful they as well. Some girls are even playing football now !
By the way, I am unsure why boys would want to join the Girl Guides.

When I was younger I wanted to join the Brownies but I was told that at age 27, I was too old...ageist nonsense !

Mikey - football, gosh - whatever next!
In Wales, girls even play Rugby ! Although not in the same teams as boys, much to my 14 year old nephews bitter disappointment.
It's because the Girl Guides have not got 3rd party insurance for these activities whilst the Boy Scouts have.

Whether that is because of the insurance companies or the GG I don't know.
Amy girl that wants a wider range of activities should join the Scouts...they have nothing to lose but their boredom.
If I said that Girl Scouts can get their Ironing Badge these days, people would shout at me wouldn't they ?
Girl Guides have the Independent Living Badge, part of which involves ironing; Boy Scouts have the Home Help Activity Badge which also includes ironing.
How stupid is this, maybe the girl guides should cut their nails before they wash cars.

I had an iron once, I 'mislaid it about 15years ago. Dangerous things.

very dangerous, wolf, you might have been tempted to hit marval with it

We could use a few irons on the News Section, just to iron things out at times you understand?
AOG...quite funny !

AOG - like the Iron Lady? I didn't agree with all her policies but I liked her strength of character. She had more balls than the rest of the PMs put together.

Allowing them off car cleaning duties is clearly favouritism and sexist.

I agree when each gender had their own exclusive club it was pure insanity to play the "sexist" card to force the boys' club to take in girls. Surely they could go find a mixed gender club if that's what they wanted rather than spoil it for those who wanted and chose to join a single gender club.
