Don't know the author or title of the book

I recall reading a book about 25 odd years ago;was about 10 - 15 years old. All I can remember is that it was about a girl who I think draw in a book and would then dream about it. At somepoint she scribbled the house, windows etc.. out and when was next ther the house was dark and had bars on. I remember being quite worried and upset at the time. Does anyone have any idea what it was called?
