Yes I am fan of his ..brilliant crime procedurals .Murder and mayhem in the Yorkshire Dales !
You should read them in order really to get the gist of Banks marriage breaking down ,his children , His parents, brother his love of music and what he does outside the job etc . But they stand alone individually as good crime writing . He's very popular .His new one Fixing to Die is published in August .
Have a look at the link .It gives all his books in order

I agree with ShaneyStar. They are excellent books, each one seems to improve on the previous. Read in order, you'll get to know the characters and their likes and dis-likes. Although Peter Robinson did I believe once live in the Dales, he now lives in Canada which makes his research of a very high calibre.
As both the above, he also has a stand alone novel called Caedomon's Song. The 1st one I read was Wednesday's Child, I bought it at the airport
just keep reading all his books, he has a good atmosphere , that you soon feel you know the character. If you like crime try Peter james. Brilliant !!!
Peter James is fab, his first detective book had me on the edge of my seat!
Can only agree with the above. I think this is one of the best series of books (17 in all) that I have read involving one central character. They never get stale and the progression of Banks' career and private life through the series provide a lovely backdrop to the stories, each of which stand up in their own right. I am about to re-read them all in order
