100 British troops have been killed in Afghanistan since hostilities began.

Was their sacrifice worth it?

The west went in with good intentions, unfortunately the indiginous population appear to prefer being run by religious nutters. No more of our guys should die trying to civilise this sh1t hole, pull out and let them kill each other, we tried, leave them to it. ditto Iraq
Not that easy

If you pull out you have to answer the question what will happen then.

Does anybody doubt al Qaeda training camps would be re-established?

Does anybody think that would be the end of it all?
Just pull out and watch from above, then use air power as and when. No need for troops on the ground.
If it were that easy we wouldn't have ground troops there in the first place would we?
lets not forget we are still fighting the war on terror, the troops out there are under no illusion why they are there,if we pull out now the lads and girls who have lost their lives will have done so for nothing....the end is never further from sight, whatever the end is,but we MUST stay and see the job through or else more atrocities will happen on that score you can be sure of.
There are now far more Islamist west haters than there were before the invasions. We fought terror with terror and it should not be surprising that all we got was more terror.

Western religious nutters in charge of the invasion followed bin Laden's script perfectly and escalated the plot inexorably toward Armageddon. The minions of Abraham eagerly await this day when their flavour of bigotry will prevail and everyone else dies.
The west went in with good intentions, unfortunately the indiginous population appear to prefer being run by religious nutters.

That is the main issue, West always takes its intention as good intention. But what is considered good in the West might not be considered good in the East or even be considered bad. And what if it is in fact bad. Trust the people who have seen and not the media or even do not trust the stories of those people who come here and tell and send chill through your spine only because that is the way they would get an easy asylum. I might be wrong or even be facing wrath of few people here but after all it is true that Taliban were not that bad but they were made look bad because few countries have their own interests in Afghanistan and once Heroes were soon shown as villains. Hamid Karzai a well known CIA agent, the Western appointed and backed president is not even safe there in his own toilet and on his own commode unless permanently guarded by soldiers forget about controlling the country.
Tell me Stoke if there is a war on terror

How will we know when we've won?

" it is true that Taliban were not that bad"

"In summer of 1998 the Taliban swept north from Herat to the predominantly Hazara and Uzbek city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the largest city in the north. Entering at 10 am on 8 August 1998, for the next two days the Taliban drove their pickup trucks "up and down the narrow streets of Mazar-i-Sharif shooting to the left and right and killing everything that moved shop owners, cart pullers, women and children shoppers and even goats and donkeys."] More than 8000 noncombatants were reported killed in Mazar-i-Sharif and later in Bamiyan."

I never forgave them for banning the flying of kites. Miserable bggers.
Didn't the politicians get it all very wrong about Afghanistan. The troops will be all home within 3 months without firing a shot we were told. So that statement means our prescence there only inflames the situation right. Well get out now!
We don't invade countries because of the way they treat their citizens - we are not the world's police

Whether they are bad or not is irrelevant.

It is our own security that is important.

So SP - fancy answering the question about what would happen if we withdrew with specific reference to Al Qaeda training camps?
The training camps are now in Pakistan Jake
My best friend and his brother both serve in '2 Para' I'm waiting to hear if the 3 lads killed are people i know.

these are men who died proud and in a belief they were doing what is needed and right!

They where killed by a coward who's 'religion' makes him believe he will be a Martyr infact he is scum.

Whether you believe the war is right or wrong.. 3 men died Defending us from an enemy who has shown it's cowardis
So the brave thing is to face an adversery with superiour equipment and capability in open warfare is it Tony?

Grow up - and smell the propaganda - all the coward/heros BS is just about keeping people motivated it's meaningless.

They were heroes when they were fighting the Russians and now they're cowards?

SP you've dodged the Question - In Pakistan there's a (mostly) friendly regieme - if we left Afganistan we could do nothing to stop these getting restablished.

You can't just ask for troops to be withdrawn and refuse to look into the crystal ball

Besides which in a crude calculation 100 people die on the roads in this country every couple of weeks.

How many Taliban do you think have died?

Modern wars are often won by the side most prepared to take casulties what message does it send if we bail after 100 deaths?

Tony I only want to ask one question. Were british forces heroes or coward mutters when they fought in wwII. What is the difference between Afghans fighting against Russia and Afghans now fighting against America and the allies.?
-- answer removed --
If you can not tell then I will tell you few differences.

1 Afghans fighting against Russia were heroes because Russians were considered enemies by the USA and allies. Afghans fighting against USA and allies are coward because we are happen to be in the countries who they are fighting against.
2 Muslims from all over the world came into Afghanistan and were hailed as heroes and Muhjahideen (One who does Jihad) because although they were fighting for the same cause as they are fighting now (against an invading army) but we liked it because anyone fighting against our enemy would be our hero. And although Muslims are still Trying and few are succeeding to go to Afghanistan and fight for the same purpose, which is (against an invading army) but only because that army happens to be ours and of our friends so instead of Mujahideen now we call them terrorists and they are still coming from the same countries but are using their own pocket as CIA are in the other corner and are no supplying with weapons and funds.

In the end write it down with a date ref that these same people will very soon become heroes again. No choice I am afraid
