I imagine I am not the only one who uses a few free moments from time to time to glance through AB questions. In my case, this leads to my sometimes forgetting that quotes are not catered for in the site's software - although I seem to remember seeing them appear occasionally. Whenever I forgetfully use them they come out "-", yet a questionmark does not arrive as &qest. Is there a way to get quotes to appear in their full and tiny glory - and why can't they be typed direct from the keyboard as in any normal document ?

The problem must be at your end not AB's. I have full access to the panoply of keyboard symbols

`!"$%^&*()_+=-[]{};'#:@~,./<>?\|

as well as those via Alt codes

e.g.

In a very graphic demonstration of how my time on AB consists of snatched moments, it was only when I went to check on the notified answer that I see that in the above question the two quotation marks actually appear as such (i.e. I never read the text again after clicking to submit it), even though I in fact typed andsymbolquot - andsymbolquot (where andsymbol is &). Isn't this technology a fascinating marvel ? It actually bends reality to make you look a right ..... (now let's see how the dots come out once I submit this !).

Oh, they're just ordinary dots. Hmm.
