Why do certain ABers, including certain Mods fell the need to "welcome" newbies?
A bit OTT in my opinion especially as many of them are "wind up merchants."

Is that aimed at me, sqad, saying "welcome to AB" on the relationship thread? If so, it's courteous - the OP is making their first post, wind-up or not.
I don't welcome anyone, but that might be more to do with the fact im an anti social nowty cow.
...LOL B00, whereas that makes me sound nice and smiley (well, sometimes...)
But then you will get newbies like me, Sqad....shy, uncertain, plucking up courage for weeks to post, wary of giving an opinion for fear of being shouted down...

We need to be welcomed and nurtured....so it's a nice thing to do...☺

boxy.....no, not just you and not just tonight.

Mmm! courtesy...........I must remember that.

I find it unnecessary.
So be it, sqad - we're all different.
I don't check if they are new or not but it's nice to be nice.
No-one welcomed me when I joined :-(

Prudie......nobody welcomed me.

Things have become courteous.
I don't remember anyone welcoming me, either, prudie - in fact, one person told me on my first night that I'd be better off googling my gardening question.
Stop taking the p!ss, sqaddie... :-)
Ahhh, don't worry sqad, i'll still treat you with disdain to stop the site becoming boring n' all, im nice like that ;-)
I'd have crossed them off my list for ever boxy
Things have become courteous since you joined, Sqad?.....See what an influence you've had on us.....☺
Smilin assasins.......
Whether someone is welcomed or not depends on their question...imo.
Sqad, you have absolutely no idea how jolly good it is to see your post here. You appear to have been disappointingly remiss is posting on AB for a short time. Anyway, it's frightfully refreshing to read your most enjoyable comments once again. And do, please do, express my fondest felicitations to the esteemed Mrs Sqad. A most hearty welcome back, old chap.
This is probably true too, ummmm!
Stewey, you clearly missed the excitement a few days back when sqad first ventured into Chatterbank :-)
saying "welcome" is so much nicer than saying "I think you're a wind up merchant" though Sqad, and probably saves getting suspended

evening shoota ;)

stewey, you should be over the field by now
