Out of interest, are people allowed to use questions to advertise on this site, or are they meant to pay for advertising like "wesleyowen", "smartfreestuff", "thefinaltheory" and "ebay" have to the right of where I am writing!?

Where are these adverts that you are talking about?

acw, I think the ads to the right are just ordinary advertising, provided by Google, that pay for the site and the AB Ed's Cadillac. I'm not sure if they're 'targeted' to be relevant to the content of a particular question, the way ads on Google and G-mail are. At least, those are the ones I can see; maybe you get special ones targeted at lawyers.
