what bird

i've seen a bird it is silver with yellow under the wings about the size of a strarling with a thin beak which looked like a blackthorn thorn not seen one before any ideas?  or where i might find pictures to reconise it ?

Where do you live johnny, as I don't recognize this as a UK bird?  Possibly an escapee from a collection, but we need a bit more info, please.
a grey wagtail perhaps?

i live in rugby midlands the bird was neer a brooke and not too timid

It just  may be the bird that aulyin has suggested, although the main colour is not silver but a dark grey and it's the under belly that is yellow. The Grey Wagtail is  never very far from a water source and your sighting near a brook more or less confirms that this is probably it.
