the bit on the left hat starts " o dat is grappig...." - the g is a ch  as in loch, means

oh that's funny when I left he was cleaning himself and now he's cleaning himself and is now under the nest box... you can still see his gray head on the left

She's notkeeping it warm is she?  Her tail is barely on it.

Most birds of prey don't start incubating until the last egg has been laid. Barn owls start incubating from the 1st egg, hence the difference in size of the chicks. When there's a shortage of food the smallest chick gets eaten.
