The caring Tory Gov are now talking about making the over 75s pay for the pleasure of watching TV, how's about that then.

I don't know why they should as the government passed that burden to the BBC last year
Im still waiting for my winter fuel allowance at the moment.

We haven't had ours yet, either.

That's not what it says here, if you read it properly.

You gave the answer in your question TWR....its a Tory Government ! What would we expect ?

Mikey, read the link, that is not what's being said.

I did say "Talking" usually when they talk it happens.
I don't agree with the statement in the link that the TV licences for over 75s will cost the BBC 'Almost its entire budget!' that is rubbish. The BBC will still have the Licence fees for all the other viewers and as the population increases so will the BBC's revenue from licences. It just no longer gets an income from those over 75.

Did you read my post Properly Mikey? I'm sure I said "TALKING"
Getting rid of least Enders. Dancing rubbish ,cooking waste of times ,Eighty three talking the obvious on Dive of the day .Would reduce the cost for over the 75
No it wouldn't, as they would spend money on other, new programming. Advertising may be necessary. I'd not be bothered by that...and I could go to the loo/make a drink without missing anything.
They are very unlikely to do it. But if they are 'talking about it' I don't see a problem with that- it seems right to me to review these things from time to time to make sure help is going to the right people in the best way. Not all over 75s are in poverty. An increase in the basic pension for example might be a better way- that way the better off over 75s would give a little back through the income tax they pay on the extra pension. Even better the licence should be abolished for all and paid for via subscription (like Sky) or via general tax or advertising
If they have to make adjustments to the tv licensing, it should be free for households where everyone is 75 or over.

As it is, a wealthy family get it when granny moves in.
Does a 75 year old receive a lower pension than a 74 year old?
HC....do you think there are more old ladies, or old chaps, living with their wealthy relatives, than there are living alone ?

I come across OAPs every week, who live a very precarious life, all alone with not much money.
No, I don't, Mikey, so very few would be affected by the change.
Then what was the purpose of your remark at 13:01 ?
So that households with only over 75s would receive the benefit, reducing the burden.

Alternatively, give it only to those households with over 75s in receipt of Pension Credit.
My dear old Dad worked very hard all his life, well into his 70's, a hard manual job and he deserved his free TV licence after the age of 75 and I suspect many do. Long may it last.
