Must admit I like the robin then the wren.
Tone, put me down for 'Red Kite'
A great success story and a stealthy bird.
Kites are magnificent, Chip.....I followed the reintroduction at Fineshade ........fantastic!

Let's do the same for the hen harrier.......☺
The blackbirds win my heart, my apples and my vote.
Which Bird Would You Vote For?

I know what Sqad's answer would be, "The one with the biggest...."
Tits, Jackdaw.

I like Owls. Difficult to choose really all of them are beautiful but I think it should be something majestic for a national emblem. The red kite is getting quite common around here now.
As I seem to be surrounded by Red Kites, I think I would like to see one as our national bird.
For coming back from near extinction I'd go with the red kite.....and it's a pretty special bird for me.....it chose my house....☺

But please remember the plight of the hen harrier.....lord....I'm starting to sound like a broken record.... :-(
Bumping this election back to LP...

A Barn Owl/Puffin coalition? Perish the thought!

Tony's original link to the story is no longer valid, but the voting page is & May 7th is the closing date -

Bump...

I refer the Honourable Ed to a previous reply in another place -

"I love an election - any place, any time, I'll be watching!"

Being that this Government is taking everything from the public Tony, I would choose a Magpie.

Oh Dear!
Not sure this is about Government TWR - my vote went to a feisty little bird which I think is a good representative for us.

All are good contenders though.

Sadly the disadvantaged will use any opportunity to promote their ill-informed ideas no matter how inappropriate it may be.
I don't really understand why folk care for another national symbol, or if we must have another one, which one it is. Anyway shouldn't each individual country have their own ? Then you can chose multiple symbolic birds, and have a field day.
Yes I am aware Mam, & I DO UNDERSTAND Tony's Post, the Eagle is the USA & is a strong Country, I doubt the UK is as strong.
Good grief! Ever wish you hadn't bothered?
I wouldn't have gone for the Magpie , they like to dive bomb me.
It will get back to feathery creatures soon Maj.
I voted robin too.

The robin is a natural garden companion - and what's more English than gardening?

Apparently they turn up so much in early art because they like hanging around over-turned earth - and people tend to do a lot of turning. They used to follow the wild boar about, and then when people turned up and started farming they started following them about.

Really, if pigs could draw we'd have even earlier records of the robin.
