I've had a pair of hedgehogs for a year and recently the male has been chasing the female in the garden and they have been mating at every second they can absolutely going at it hammer and tongs this was till yesterday when I noticed that the male hedgehog wasn't chasing the Female anymore which i thought was rather strange seeing that he was previously acting like a little spiky porn star and on further investigation I've definitely noticed that's walking with a slight limp and after even further investigations it appears that he has one of the females thorns stuck on his male member. What should I do as vets bills are very expensive but I can't stand seeing his poor little face screwed up in pain so should I get a magnifying glass and some tweezers and attempt to pull it out and then clean with dettol or is this a vet situation, also what kind of prices do vets charge for minor hedgehog injuries?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

... they're not hibernating then?
looks like troll time

you could suck the hedgehog's penis to get the 'thron' out.
Is there a Wildlife Centre near you? I don't know where you live, but in Bucks there is St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital and they take in and look after any injured or ill wild animal free of charge, You may also be able to ring them for advice. I'll see if I can find number.

No they're nigerian hedghogs so only hibernate from Oct-Jan.
Dtcrosswoordfan I do understand this is a little odd but I'm 100% serious.
... worrying about a small pr1ck in a small pr1ck ... they couldn't make it up ... oh, they just did.

the number is 01844 292292. Give them a call.
Ah this weekend's odd animal post. I personally wouldn't suck it out, try and get it between you teeth and tug
Prudie, that sounds like the voice of experience ... care to enlighten us? lol x
Well then, can you give a link to such an animal as the Nigerian hedgehog if you are serious.

I have spent a lot of time in Nigeria and have never heard of such a beast of either the Atelerix or Erinaceus genus......
Well you know what they say Naz - start with something small x

Dtcrosswordfan you've never heard of the African Pygmy hedgehog? I can't believe that anyone that has been to Nigeria hasn't heard of them especially as outside the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos is one of the biggest hedgehog farms in the world and you can't get from side of the Airport to another without someone trying to sell you hedgehogs! Here have a look.

You said the Nigerian Hedgehog not the African Pygmy.

That's like calling a German Shepherd a Bavarian Sheepdog.

Hedgehogs are very tasty and make a good soup (and I am serious)
Are you at the GRAVY again?
As I see 2 cost about £300 I suggest you can quite clearly fork out for the vet
Question Author
Yes I know they eat them back in Nigeria but I couldn't.
Prudie I was made redundant just before christmas so cannot really afford to especially if I could do it myself.
I had them in China a few times, instead of eating water rat.
They were kind of sharp........

No actually, the meat wasn;t bad - a little peppery and pork-like.
