You don't say what breed your dog is, little miss.  Some breeds are much more vocal than others.
Don't knock it.

so sorry! he is a black labrador. he is around dogs that bark all the time but for some reason he has never barked! it's not something i want him to start doing but i'm curious as to why he doesn't do it!!
I got my dog from a rescue centre so he was around dogs who constantly bark. When we got him home he didn't bark for 3 weeks until he saw somebody walk up our path. Maybe your dog hasn't learnt when his territory is "under threat." I think that when somebody knocks on your door you should make a lot of fuss and try to get him to respond. Try to get him to react before you open the door. Maybe then he will learn to alert you when he needs to - a dog who barks is a lot safer than a quiet one...and more fun!!!
both my dogs are border collie/austalian shephard mixes.  neither one of them barked until they were around a year old.  they learned from other dogs when to bark, like when someone's at the door.  now i wish they hadn't.
