I've got a bat on the wall down by the washing line.... He's very near ground level and I'd really like him to move from there. Should I poke him with a broomstick and get him to fly away? Will he bite me or my dog?

Help. :-(

Just leave him be - he'll be trying to hide from the light. I had a colony of 450+ bats living in the roofspace of my flat (they've blocked off access now so hopefully the bats will hve to find another roost this year) but I saw plenty of them over the years and they'll leave you and your dog alone so long as you leave them.

He's outside in broad daylight and I'm worried that he'll bite Alf. Tony just tried smacking the wall, but the damn thing didn't flinch.
he won't bite but if the sun will be on the area where he is now he might appreciate some shade Keep the dog away though More because it isn't worth the risk of injury to the bat from an over inquisitive pooch.

I'm jealous we rarely see bats where I live
He's not been able to get back to his roost and is trying to find a dark place. I even had some get into the house on occassion and as soon as the light went on they would try and bury their faces into dark corners. If it's really bothering you, get some thick gardening gloves and scoop it up in a towel , then let it go elsewhere (preferably somewhere shaded). Otherwise leave him - he'll go when it gets dark.

Okey dokey.

I got chased round the villa by one last year, Rowan.
^ pmsl you wuss............
It's got more to fear from you and your dog than you both have from it! Leave it be or find it some shade as suggested. What the heck do you want to 'poke it' for?

Who are you calling a wuss, Crafty? That thing had fangs...
Fangs lol... how big is it... 3ft across? ;-p
I think that they are lovely - like little winged mice.
pmsl, give it a saucer of blood....
... with little razor sharp fangs and a penchant for small dogs...
What is going to do - pick up the dog and fly away with it?
nah its just going to suck all the blood out of alfie then alfie will become a vamdog
It might fly up the dog's harris and eat it's way out... no?

Oh yes, you may laugh. But they do bite, and they do have rabies !
Are you sure it's a bat and not a stain on the wall?
Question Author
