Since when?

I understand cyclists need licences to cycle on canal but free to cycle unlicenced anywhere else?

Too much money-grabbing red tape! Who collects the licence fees?

Permits to cycle on canal tow path have to be paid for - to whom?
tamborine:

Yes, it's true, you need a fishing permit which you can get from the post office.

Believe it or not, there are 2 types: coarse fishing and salmon fishing.

You can get a 1 day, or an 8 day, or for a whole year.

Prices range from about 2.50 to 26.

you need a fish licence to ride a bike?
Just checked the 'free licence' download - what a con! This is just to collect names and addresses for when the inevitable fees are bought in.
Applied to British Waterways for cycle permit. It was free and is still valid 10 years on.
