pale blue with brownie grey speckle....any ideas, we do have doves and magpies, but dont think its one of theirs

Doves lay white eggs.
The eggs you describe are very common among passerine birds and could belong to heaps of different birds.
Absolutely agree with the first answer here, definitely sounds like a blackbirds egg to me....country girl born and bred with a nature mad father who insisted on teaching myself and brother 'everything' haha!
