my cat has been put on a prescription diet for struvite crystals. he is allowed approx 200g of prescription wet food but because he has been nightmarishly pestering us for food we have given in and given approx 235g daily. he has got a bit chunky over the last couple of weeks, but he is manic, crazy for food. ive just reduced his food back down to 200g daily but i feel terrible cos he just seems so desparate, he walks to heel at the moment..... all day! i know the food has all the nutrition he needs but all he knows is that his belly aint full and i cant explain it to him. i just want some reassurance im doing the right thing

Hi, you are doing the right thing for him! I had the same issues with my cat (who had kidney probs), and one of my dogs. My cat seemed to constantly be pestering for food when he first went on the prescription diet.

The dog was overweight and she needed a special low fat diet. For a couple of months she must have been starving on the amount of food we were giving her compared to what she was used to. I felt terribly guilty. But a year down the line, she is far healthier and happier than I have ever seen her.

Guess you just have to keep in mind that ultimately you're doing the best thing for your pet. Stick with it! Good luck!
Its not the amount of food that causes crystals but the content.
Ask your vet if you can increase it but be honest about his weight - if he is 'chunky' as you say perhaps he does need the lower amount.
is your cat overweight?
