we rehomed him and his sister from the town when they were 2 she got hit on the road after we had had them about 9 months vet wanted to put her to sleep but we persevered and despite being slightly paralysed on one side at the back she enjoys life and he brings home his catches and somtimes gives them to her to play with, he loved to bring us somthing usually alive and dropped on the lounge floor. i know he had a good life and loved living here in the country he used to come home filthy dirty flop down have a sleep then be off again .i was hoovering muck off the settee where he had been sitting last night when the door bell rang this morning and claire stood there with him in her arms
It is good that you have seen him and held him and that you know he died quickly. You will be able to come to terms with it, although it seems dreadful at the moment. It is good that you can express your thoughts about him on here and tell us what he was like. He does sound as if he had a wonderful life - so many don't.

A cat of ours disappeared late last year. She never left the garden and wouldn't go to strangers - a shy animal. It is worse not knowing what happened to her and I still think of her daily.
I can only say what others have said - I am so sorry to hear your sad news. About this time last year my pregnant cat was run over and it was heartbreaking to have to have her put down.

My sincere condolences ruthann.

lofty dont give up hope 1 of mine went missing for 11 months very nervous little cat only lets me touch her, my neighbours used to race motorbikes all over the country i am sure she must have got in one of the trailers and ended up god knows where and it took her all that while to make her way back home thanks everyone for all your kind wishes it has helped to come on here as i can pour my heart out and no one knows me so i dont feel daft as so many of you seem like me over your pets
Oh ruthann it will do you good to have a cry and be upset it's only natural if you loved your boy.I have been through it like alot of people on here and it is heartbreaking and it will take time.I am afraid this is the price of freedom we give our cats,if only we could tell them.Bless g.
I am sorry to hear that. I have had cats for over 60 years. They have all been great and sorely missed when their time came.

You say one of your cats so hopefully you still still have some furry company.

Best wishes.
None of us are daft - Pickles my dog is like one of the family. I love her to bits and would be so upset if something happened to her.

I have shed a tear for you I must admit - wish I could help x
Awww Ruthann I really feel for you. My 2 are like my babies and I can imagine the pain and anger you must be feeling. Several years ago I had to have my little cat Snoopy put down as he had kidney failure. He was put down on my birthday of all days. I was devastated. It was like losing a family member.

xxxxxxx
Oh bless ..how sad ..but there are kind people out there ...so will tell you all a heartwarming story .Friend of mine lost her 17 old cat recently .It was more or less a house cat and never strayed far. so she was very concerned .After running around frantically for a day or so she put up posters .Elderly man knocks on her door saying he found a dead cat ,same description in the schoolyard near his house .Thought it was a cat he fed ( a cat that had attached itself to him although he was not the owner )so buried it in his garden along with other pets he had over the years ..As he was burying it he looked up and saw his cat on the fence ! Put two and two together and realised it was my friends cat ,not his , as he had seen the posters .
To cut a long story sideways my friend now has her beloved cat back and has had him cremated .He had obviously gone off to die ..as they do ..but had it not been for the kindness of this gentleman she would never have known what had happened to him .
It's awful when you lose a pet I as I well know xxx
My heart goes out to you,ruthann......I know too well how you are feeling. I lost the best cat in the world almost 16 years ago. He had been an apartment cat in NYC,We brought him with us when we came to the UK and we almost lost him in quarantine as he pined for us and would not eat. He had a year in the country doing what cats do,when,in the autumn he started roaming the fields looking for mice. One night he didnt come home...the next morning a neighbor knocked on our door...she had him in a cardboard box. He had been killed instantly...I still miss him. He weighed a stone and loved to sit on your shoulder!!...a truly special cat-but then they all are. Yours will live on in your memories.....a hug and kisses to you ((())) xx
ruthann I am so sorry to hear your sad news. I know how you feel because my beloved ginger tom, Dylan, was killed on the road. At least in my case the person who hit him came and told me and she was so upset herself.
He sounds as if he had a lovely life and was very well loved - you must have some lovely memories of him.
sorry to hear bout your cat ruthann,
thoughts are with you , chin up x
I know just how you are feeling. I had to phone work and go sick after losing one of my cats in similar circumstances ( I am a 50-year old lorry driver). Still get the pi$$ taken out of me by work-mates.
Awww ruthann, so sorry to hear your sad news. I am always scared that my three will get hit by a car, especially the oldest one who goes awandering.

So glasd you were able to come on here and post, I ope it has helped you a little bit xx

I am sure yours is caring for my little one though; Matilda died last summer of meningitis at only 9weeks old, she could probably do with a cuddle xx
Hello again ruthann. I hope you are OK this morning.

Thank you for your kind words about our lost cat. Unfortunately, she was a stray who we had had for only 11 months and when she went missing we had moved only three months previously, so she wouldn't know the area that well (as she only ever sat in the flower bed outside the back door). She was so timid that if anyone approached or talked to her she would just hide in the bushes. She just disappeared into thin air in the space of under one hour.

I spent two weeks looking for her, asking people to check garages, sheds etc and put notices up everywhere. Somehow I knew it was to no avail because she never ever left the flowerbed!

I can't bear to think what might have happened.

You have had some lovely replies. I am so pleased there are such good, kind and supportive people on this site.
I'm so sorry to hear about your cat too Rauthann. Same thing happened to my ginger boy a few years ago. Not a mark on him, just like yours. I still cry when I look at his picture.

Console yourself with the fact that you gave him a lovely life and that he was probably a very happy cat. Just like Leelapaops says in an earlier posting there is Karma, or as I always say "the big wheel turns".

I am really sorry to hear your news, it must be so upsetting for you. My cats do sometimes go out but they are always supervised by us, I just couldn't cope with the upset of losing a cat this way. As a car driver, I'd personally be heartbroken if I knocked a cat over - I hope the person who hit yours can live with the guilt.
