Street Dogs are killed in a mass rate in the Olympics. Is it True? If true what are the animal welfare organisations doing?

Don't know the answer to that one, but p'raps the irresponsible owners of the dogs should be rounded up & imprisoned along with their mutts! Dogs roaming are a b****y nuisance & a danger to children & adults who may approach them.
When I first read about this problem a few months ago, the report said that animal welfare organisations in countries such as UK, Australia and US were going to try to round up as many of these strays as possible and take them in. However, when I read about it again over the weekend (Telegraph) it said that attempts are being made to poison the estimated 15,000 strays in Athens (although it is apparently illegal to poison them, but this is being overlooked). I dont know what has happened with the animal welfare organisations efforts. Very sad.
Since when was killing street dogs introduced as an Olympics event? Still I suppose they do have beach volleyball so nothing's really surprising anymore.
