Depends on type and size of apple and time of year!
Yes it does depend on the type of apple, but when I used to work as a saturday girl in a fruit and veg shop (a long time ago) if someone asked for a pound of apples we would weigh out 4. On that basis, around 10 average apples would be approx. one and a half kilos. Strange question!
When I was teaching in Italy, I used to ask my students what was the colour of Garibaldi's white horse. And which was heavier, a kg or apples of a kg of feathers. Alright I know that has nothing to do with apples, but I'm in a lull at work right now...no I haven't been drinking/sniffing glue

Susan123 that reminds me of when I asked my English Literature teacher who wrote The Diary of Anne Frank. He didn't know.

Roald Dahl.
Would Andyswann please explain why he wants to know? Surely he must realise it depends on the size (weight) of the individual apples? Cox's are quite small, Bramleys are very big.
Question Author
Thank you everyone who took the time to answer my question. Your answers have been very illuminating. Bert, no I don't plan to explain why I want to know. Do I need to justify the question? Or perhaps my question wasn't worthy? Cheers everyone
