That's so sad and I really do feel for you. Most animal owners have been in that position at some point and it's not a very nice place to be.
You have to keep hold of the fact that you did what was best for your poor cat and that in time you will be able to remember the good times you had. You will always miss it and there will be happy memories - but at the moment everything is just too raw.
Take care

Eileenb - read the poem by Yvonne in the thread that starts "Sad" in this section. Hope it makes you feel better. I feel for you, too. K xx
So sorry you have lost your cat. I have one thats 18 and I thought he was on the way out a few weeks ago. He is still with us but I dread the day when he goes. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old so I have loved the old guy a long time. Us cat lovers are thinking of you and I send my best wishes to you.

I am sorry to hear about your cat. It is amazing how our little furry bairns become such a valued member of our families. My heart goes out to you - I was in the same position last year and I must have been really distraught because my brother was actually quite nice to me about it.

best wishes

Susan
Sorry to hear about your cat its a horrible thing to go through. We lost ours after 15 years last year and I still miss him even though we took in two rescue cats. Thinking about you

thanks everyone.
the "idiot" was Bonnie aka: milk bandit, noisebox, nutter amongst the polite names she got,the other names arent printable..usually used after she'd "mugged" your cereal bowl!
She was 14 and lost the use of her back legs, she'd had little fits for a few months but usually got better after.
Sadly this time she couldnt.
even with 3 other cats and the dog,she knew who the Boss was....her.

Sorry about you loss Eileenb.

I lost my kitty after 15 years and I was devasted. He had kidney failure and had to be put down 7 years ago. I still miss him now even though I've got Tigger and Blue now.
So sorry to hear this, but you know you did the right thing for your mog.

Remember the good times and have a little weep, as I am sure most of are doing right now!
Sorry for you having to go through this sad loss eileenb ,
It's awful and leaves a hole in your life . Your beloved cat however , will remain in your heart forever :-) (( HUG)) x
So sorry to hear your sad news...It will take time but you will get over it and remember the happy times. Most of us on here know how you feel as we have had the same dreadful thing to do.Keep your chin up,its better to cry than bottle it in.Think of all the good times .
Oh dear, I'm in tears! So sorry for you, why do we do this to ourselves, we know we're going to lose them and yet we still go through it all over again.

Take care

Just a thought - we love our animals (and our humans!), but they don't live as long as we do (Unless you've got a pet elephant - now there's a thing...), so as long as they've had a happy life and been loved & cared for, it's a natural thing. Eileen, your dear Bonnie sounds as though she had a wonderful life. Don't be sad for too long, be glad she was with you and that you did the right thing by her at the end. Luv, K xx
Sorry for your loss eileenb, she sounds as if she had a very happy life with you :)

aww sorry, wee cats are such a joy in our lives. we're in between cats at the moment. but have had a few in the past.
you have your memories, smile and treasure them, xxxxx
Aww eileen
We lost charlie 3 years ago to cancer after rescuing her 12 years before as a 3 year old.
Unfortunately she didn't like kids so when mine came along they couldn't get close to her and to be honest my son hated her - I think the feeling was mutual. She would attack him for no reason!

After trying unsuccessfully to keep goldfish (one of which I buried next to Charlie to keep her company), we got a 5 week old kitten almpost a year ago. Daughter was all for it, but son was dubious - he adores her.

I could never have imagined ever replacing Charlie, but Tori is so sweet it took all the hurt away.

Take care

So sorry to hear of your loss...my 15yr old moggy died on my kitchen floor 2yrs ago and I still think of her....all made worse by having to have an equally old dog put to sleep 2months earlier. So often our relationships with our animals last longer than those with humans...it is no wonder we are so hard hit when they go. Like everyone else has said-think of the good times, and give your other pets some extra cuddles.
Part of the responsibility of having a pet is knowing when the time is right. My Neapolitan Mastiff who weighed 15 stone staggered into the garden and lay down where I had decided (silently) would be the best place to bury him. The vet came and put him down in the garden he loved as we couldn't have brought him home from the vets and lifted him up the hill. The spark had gone and the dog knew the time was right. Pity we don't have the same right to dignity as our pets. Hugs to you, I know how you're feeling
so sorry eileen to hear your sad news its so hard when you lose one of the tribe i know as we have 8 cats used to be 12 but they are all getting old now and we are starting to lose them they all have their own little ways the dogs know who they can interfere with and who is going to give them a scratch if they put their nose where its not wanted
