Hi, im looking into getting a cat in the future but i dont know much about their social activities. I just wondered is it better to get 1 or 2? I love cats so wouldnt mind having 2 at all, i jsut wondered if it makes any difference whether they prefer to live alone or with a play friend. Thanks

i would definately recommend getting 2 - try go to a place like cats protection league or somewhere like that and get 2 kittens, sometimes they will have litters of kittens which is better because then they will be related and used to each other.
we have always got 2 cats together, because then they have each other rather then just being on their own.
We have got 3 cats at the moment, a brother & sister who we got just over a year ago from a lady at the vets who rescues abandoned a animals, and an older cat who when we got him we got him & his brother but his brother sadly died last year.
If you get 2 it just means they can play together and stuff, i think its best to get 2 just so they have each other.
hope this helps & good luck with choosing your cat(s)!!
yes i would agree. 2 cats will be better as they can bond if they are not already. They will have each other for companionship when you are out and they are alone. I have cats that are always with one of the others and then i have cats who are loners, but for the most part they really enjoy another feline to share washes and playtime and naps together. A fellow feline makes a soft pillow at nap time!

it can help you understand cats just a bit more than you already do.
Definitely 2, or more if you want. Cats that are single, in my experience, become quite solitary. We've always had at least one on the go and they, most of the time, love each others' company, often cuddled up together for a sleep, plafighting, or off on the prowl somewhere. You really get to see a cat's personality when it's with other cats.
Definately 2.
It's just lovely to see them play, fight, chase each other and then cuddle up together and sleep.
I have 2 right now(5months old brother and sister). One is watching the screen and about to attack the letters I'm typing and the other is clawing my lap. Brilliant!
From the owner of 3 cats, I would strongly recommend getting more than 1. My 3 are mum, dad and son, and they constantly ply together, run about the house chasing each other and generally are really really happy. Having had only 1 cat when I was younger, I did find it was very loving but a little arrogant. There personalities definatly come out when there is more than 1. Also if you are out of the house for long periods of time, you will feel happier knowing that there are 2 together rather than 1 alone.
Word of warning, my 3 are all Burmeese, I got the older 2 from the cats protection league and then along came thier son, they are a really really vocal breed. They constantly talk to me and to each other.
Happy Choosing, hope all goes well. x
I'd agree that 2 cats will keep each other amused, and they seem to prefer cat-company, but I would add that I think having multiple cats makes the cats more 'catty' and less interested in human company.
A lot of people say that and I would agree that they are more' catty ' in some ways, but my two are so affectionate as well and I often have the two of them purring away curled up on my neck!! They both follow me around and I get double the love.
They naturally become 2 individuals with their own lives when they get older-I just think it's lovely when they're kittens to have each other as well as you to play with.
Definitely two.

You might have trouble finding KITTENS at this time of year though. I was lucky enough to find one 12 months ago but winter litters are like gold dust!
Don't know whereabouts you live but look on Trade-It Classifieds(on the net) for your area, they always seem to have some-that's where I got mine.
go to cats protection first, at least you know that you are getting healthy cats.
