Something happened last night that i haven't been able to get out of my head.

Driving home from a friends, having had 1 drink(a half) I approached a junction and struck a cat, I stopped to see what it was but then I drove on, I know i should have checked it out but it was cold outside. and I didn't have a coat.

Does anyone now the law surrounding this?

Am I obliged to stop for a cat?

I was by no means over the limit but the guilt has been stopping me sleep, I feel as though I've been struck down wiith an illness!

I believe you only have to report it if you knock down a dog not a cat but maybe you should have checked it out encase it was injured. Someone could have been looking for it and been distressed at not finding it. I don't know why a cat's life should be any the less important than a dog, but there you go.
Looking a goosing entry two down. I hope that wasn't you.
dont know, but have you seen the post by goosing further down?
If this is a joke posting--then think about the person who posted below and be ashamed of yourself!
If it isn't, then why didn't you see how the cat was--It was hardly that cold out last night!
You shold have at least looked to see if the cat was...personally I'm glad you can't sleep.
Got abit angry typing my reply...hence the spelling....is this a joke.... You even say you feel like you've been struck down by an an illness, when that is exactly what goosing says in her post... You also say that you were by no means over the limit...but you had been drinking, idiots like you shouldn't be out on the roads....Toss*r
You didn't check because it was cold and you didn't have a coat?

Thank God it wasn't a child!
He/she would have probably done the same anyway. Lets hope Karma strikes.

Thank you very much for your opinions, but as maggie01 says at the top, I am only obliged to stop if it was a dog...

obviously a cat is not as important as a dog in the eyes of the law...

I feel a lot better now thanks maggie01!
So i'm guessing that it wasn't guilt over the cat that has you feeling "struck down with an illness" ? it's just worry over your own sorry arse?

I've a feeling this'll get banned but I don't care- you're heartless and I really hope the saying what goes around comes around is true!
This is an unpleasant wind up post ainded at goosing.
I suggest we don't feed the trolls.
wnjxc21 is a cat hater , see link

Sorry you had to put up with that goosing.
Ahhh makes sense then noxy, thanks for that.

What a total twonk, making a mockery out of someone's obvious upset?

I despair of people sometimes i really do.
wnjxc21 is obviously trying to over compensate for something they are lacking by making others feel bad.

wnjxc21 I feel sorry for you. I hope you get that penis enlargement soon.

I hope so too..

It really is top of my worry list, followed by what all you other ABer's think of me!

Perhaps I have you husbands if it's free...he said he was 'post-op' in his e-mails...
Yawn. Bored now. Toodles
I was trying to answer your question. I try not to judge, but I was by no means trying to make you feel better. Just stating what I thought you should have done. Cat, dog. bird, hampster etc they are all someone's pets and we all want to know what happens to them if they don't come home.
oh my word wnjxc21, whever don't you have a career as a standup comedian? I mean, that was SO funny, So fresh, did you think of that ALL BY YOURSELF? My word what a talent in our midst!
Alternatively you might try shutting your hole and not mock people who are obviously upset.
You don't like cats, that's your right, but no need to be such a monumental d******d is there?
My brother hates cats.

One day he was driving to work, it was icy cold and raining. He saw a car hit a cat and drive off. This sickened my brother and he stopped to check on the cat. It was dead and he put it at the side of the road so that its owner might be able to find it.

Hitting an animal with a car and driving off is inexcusable and shows how shallow and cruel a person is.

Hate them or love them cats have as much right to exist as we do.
