I've been adopted by a cat... Is there any way that her attitude can be "softened"? At the moment she's a real miserable little git!

I adopted my late fiend when he was pretty old and he lived for 5 years with me, until he recently went ot pussycat heaven.

He was grumpy and short tempered the whole time. He only cheered up when he attacked me or when he woke me up during the night to demand a cuddle or feed.

Don't push it, your cat will need to get to know you so that it can use this against you. She wouldn't stay around if she wasn't happy. Take her to the vet just to make sure she is okay and then just wait until she trusts you.

They are funny animals, but great fun. George was never a 'lap' cat but he was happy and content and strutted around the house looking arrogant and this is how it should be.
Heya!
Everytime your cat bites or attacks you or even tries to, you could throw it out. Not literally, of course, but show it you are angry and make it go out side. This can be particularly effective when the weather is miserable and will show your cat that it can only enjoy the luxuries of being inside if it behaves in a way you find acceptable. We did this with our cat and he is now nothing like the cat he used to be. You must do it every time though or else she won't understand whats ok and whats not. I would wait till your cat trusts you too.
Hope this helps
lol at your question - I know exactly how you feel ! Think wolf has given you some good advice. I also ended up with a po faced cat who is constantly aloof BUT when she does choose to give me affection it is so much the sweeter, and I just think she doesn't like humans because she was a shelter cat and is not into cuddles and noise or any kind of socialisation with people. But she is lovely and I love her for who she is. That's all you can do!
HI, I have had my cat "MILLIE" since she was 9 weeks old, she is now 5 years old, I have given her so much love and affection over the last five years, I have spoilt her, given her the best of everything, my reward is nil, its her way or no way, very, very rarely does she ever make a fuss of me, I think now, "oh well that cats for you"!........... X X X :-)
