2nd attempt - site won accept posts. They're probably desperate for food as the soil has dried up and the worms have gone deep. Ensure it has plenty of water and feed it with tinned cat or dog food (meat varieties) as it may be feeding babies and need help.
They'll also scoff down the dry cat foods as well, we've been feeding up to six in our very small garden for a few years now. As Wendy says they won't usually be out at that time but they can get desparate. If you do encourage them your garden will be free of slugs and other nasties and if you're very lucky you'll see how persistent Mr hedgehog has to be to make baby hedgehogs, most amusing.
I found one walking around in my garden yesterday, which amazed me too, as I have only ever seen them at night. It was letting me get really close to it while I was putting its food down.
It enjoyed its drink and cat biscuits and it paid us another visit this morning!
In addition to the excelent advise above, you shouldn't touch the hedgies because one of the most often encountered reason for a hoggy to be out and about at daytime is that they are sick. They can carry a few diseases that are transmitable to humans.

Hope I am wrong and that it is just the weather that makes them come out.
You can always ring up St Tiggywinkles and ask them for advice. I don't know the number, I'm afraid.

My dogs fished a hedgehog out from under our hedge the other night. It was a bit cross, but not hurt as far as I can tell. The dogs have got scars on their noses from prickles though!
I don't no anything about hedgehogs, but would just like to say, check your dogs for fleas! Hedgehogs are covered in them & they can hop onto your dogs.
