It's a myth that grey squirrels kill red ones.

Greys are a much more adaptable species than reds. whose natural habitat is fast disappearing.

If the Daleks looked like furbies would you say the same about them?. Grey squirrels are an introduced species and have upset the balance of the ecosystem. They spread disease, damage trees and destroy birds. Think of them more as what they really are (tree rats) rather than emotionally as "cute".
I'm a member of a red squirrel society in Scotland and I'm sorry to say but i hate grey squirrels. They don't kill the red ones but they do eat their food and move into their territory and thus theY endanger the British red squirrel, which may i add was here long before the fat American grey moved in and munched all the reds food. GO HOME FAT GREY SQUIRREL.
Its like chavs taking over the world really aint it?
Serve absolutely no purpose what so ever, but you're forced to share the same air!!
grey squirrels and mink are to be erradicated from these shores . so why not make coats from them. create a market and enterprise will help the environment . and once nature is balanced the buisness folds leading to the end of global warming and world peace.

simple
The grey squirrel is generally considered to be less of a problem than red quirrels. Red quirrels get into wires underneath your car and chew them, they get into garages and destoy stored material. Grey sqirrels, on their own, rairely cause any known problems to man. I don't know if they kill red squirrrels, but if they do, its just a natural responce, probablly better left untouched by man.

If you feel like you have a HUGE population of squirrels around you, check to see if a neighbor happens to be feeding them! :)
Grey squirrles are not a native species in the UK They are really tree rats and are classified as vermin along with rats. It is against the law to feed them or release them into the wild. They eat birds eggs and baby birds.
The red will also take birds eggs given the chance! I am no lover of grey squirrels but dont forget that part of the problem is us!!! We have destroyed the habitat it needs. Reds prefer coniferous forests but can live in broad leaved woodland. How much of that do you have near you? Greys are adaptable and quite happily live in gardens, hedgerows and parkland where reds will not. Greys put on weight quicker and are therefore more likely to survive in times of hardship. Greys can also live in a 'denser' population. A given area can support 8 times the number of greys than it can reds.
I live in Nottinghamshire and we have acres and acres of Forestry Commission woodland mostly conifers with mixed deciduous on the outskirts but not a red squirrel in site
