Sadly i had to put my parents dog down tonite, Rex, he was 16yrs old, had a weak heart and was worn out, bless him, my parents are in their 70's and 80's so they were finding it harder and harder to look after him properly, i can't help feeling so guilty about it, the vet say's we did the right thing, but i feel like a murderer, especially, on Rex's good days looked a picture of health, what do you think ?

MMmmm tough one.

Option 1) Being alive with a dodgy ticker living out my days with some OAPS struggling to take me walkies.

Option 2) Being in doggy heaven, rejuvenated with loads of hot young randy poodles and tasty young Yorkshire terrier butts to sniff.

You did the right thing honey. Bless your heart.

thanx Ward - Minter, for making me smile. Option 2) sounds far more appealing .

I had to have my dog put to sleep, due to cancer, five years ago, I felt awful afterwards. I missed him so much.

After a month, on the rebound, I got a cat. I was kept busy trying to catch (and strangle) the little b*s**rd as he destroyed my house and drove me nuts.

I still miss my dog - but I after a while you realise that you did what had to be done. You did it because you loved the animal. And as Ward-Minter says - pussycat and doggy heaven is a great place. Just a thought though - do they get their balls back when they get to the pearly gates?

LMAO - that was a great question Wolf-63 ...

As to your problem Josy - you shouldn't feel guilty. Ending our pet's pain and suffering in a humane way is the last and greatest act of kindness we can give them. I'm not saying not to miss him. God knows the loss is going to hurt for a long time. But you did the right thing by him.

For example ... down the street from me is an old Lab named Max. It is obvious that he is in terrible pain with every move he makes. And he's is so terribly emaciated that you can see every bone in his body. But they won't put him down. It absolutely breaks my heart for him because he's suffering so much and there's nothing I can do about it. I can't understand why people allow their pets to suffer when they can make the humane choice.

Give yourself time to grieve ...

thought I had better add....I still have the cat from hell. He was a miserable stray before the Cats Protection found him. He is pretty old himself now and I know that I will have to face up to the inevitable one day. Yet some days I still want to strangle the little monster.

Josy , my heart goes out to you, my dog Megan is 12 now still in good health, but has had the best part of her life, i have lost a dog previously so know the heartbreak, making the most of my time with Meg, bless you for your act of kindness.

Definitely the right thing under those circs.

A brave decision, but a necessary one.

josy have you read about RAINBOW BRIDGE,you should, that really makes you feel at ease, you'll shed a tear but afterwards, well,,,,try it!!
pity we cant do the same with all the sick humans ie rapists murderers child molesters etc etc etc
I do agree andy, but I wish we could also do it for the genuinely sick humans, who we have to watch suffer until they die naturally. At least we can do this last thing for our beloved pets, who have given us so much pleasure.
