In the local park where I take my dog for a walk there are houses backed up to the park so their gardens face the park and there is a concrete wall between the gardens and the park. There's this one woman where either her, a dog or a fox has dog a hole under the concrete wall into her garden. And she puts an old biscuit tin out in the hole full of food. Whether it's to feed the foxes or deter them from coming in to her garden I don't know. But the issue is that my dog and lots of other dogs always run over there to eat the food. My dogs have got strict eating as they've got sensitive tummys so I can't have them eating whatever ti is she puts out. I see a lot of dog owners who are annoyed at this too. But I don't know where I stand on this. Yes I know the easiest thing is just to have my dog on the lead when passing the spot but should she really be leaving food out, it encourages rats too?

if you cant control your dog off the lead then it shouldnt be off. But to answer your question report her to enviomental health as it is on public land and is a health risk.

hope it helps

You just had to have a dig didn't you!!!!

I don't have a problem with controlling my dog I would just like to walk my dog in peace and not having to ask it to leave it or hear other owners do the same. The issue is the food not my dog thankyouverymuch.

yes well if it cant obey you I hope that you dont end up on the news as one of those people whos dogs have attacked a child.

Honestly dropgoal3, happy_face was just asking a question, and your criticism isn't going to help the problem at all. Stopping a dog from going over to free food is almost against its nature!

As happy_face says, the problem is with the lady, not the dog!

thank you leandrews. Jeez did dropgoal get out on the wrong side this morning
when dogs are allowed to walk free with no muzel then that is a big problem as a animal that has insticts.
also i answered his question
Question Author

oh and all dogs attack do they?

it's the same as saying all youths wearing hoodies are going to mug you. What a generalisation

well tell that to the families who have lost children or have had them violently attacked.

also there are rules about hoddies as there are about dogs but all dog owners feel they are free to ignore them along with leaving the dogs mess in parks.

I did not quite understand, who the wall belongs to.
If it's the lady's I think it's up to you, to stop your dog from eating the cookies.
If it's public, I'd go with dropgoal3's suggestion.

By the way, just would like to point out, that so far he's the only one who's answered your question.

Question Author

you need to stop generalising and assuming. has no one ever told you it's wrong to assume. Not everyone leaves dog mess, not everyone has a dog that attacks you, not everyone has a problem with controlling their dogs. Yes I do feel sorry for the victims of such tragedy but I feel sorry for a lot of victims of different tragedies. You can't say ALL dog owners ignore rules and laws. - Never assume, like you assume I'm a he.... as if

For your info I am male and have been a fully qualifies solicitor for 8 months and have a rough understanding.

your choice

I thought solicitors had to be able to at least spell. And I didn't think single minded was part of being a solicitor.

So dogs attacking people is a big problem?? Right so that's why it's always crimes committed by people that take up the news and papers

Anyway I couldn't care less what you do for a living - in the words of Catherine Tate - AM I BOTHERED!!!!

In the first instance, would it be possible for you to drop a pollte letter through the womans letter box, explaining the problems it has caused for you and others and hopefully she will refraim. Good Luck.

I think Thunderbird+ has a point perhaps you could speek to her and find out why she puts the tin out instead of just filling in the hole if this does not work then perhaps try contacting the local coucil about the whole they may be able to help you :-)

Dropgoal3, if you go back and look at your first post it does look like you are attacking happyface by saying that she has no control of her dog my dog and my sisters dog are both very good of the lead but if they find food they will not come away from it easily in fact I don't know of many dogs that would come away from a free feed easily. You then go on a mention aggressive dogs this is not written in a general way it does look accusitory.

i have a dog and it has been to obedience school which is what you should do if you have a potentially dangerous animal.

mine will stop if i give the command no matter what food is there but still while off the lead in public areas i obey the law and make it where a muzel while off the lead.

dropgoal what country are you in? I don't think it's the law for a dog to be muzzled when off the lead in the uk unless it is dangerous or a pitbull my dogs do go to obediance training our class is tonight infact but no matter how much control we have over our dogs they will still go for a feed if its offered thats what comes of being oppertunist eaters. but how much control we have of our dogs is not the point here you said a few things that although very valid don't really apply here. I think the question was about what to do about a woman leaving food out in an area where any animal could get at it this could encourage vermin which the coucil would then have to come and erradicate wasting a lot of time and money or this food could already be poisoned in which case it could be dangerours to children aswell. the dog part of this story is only seccondary.
Question Author

HEAR HEAR !!!

Glad to hear someone understand what I mean about the fact of leaving food out, - Which was the whole issue in the first place.

just had a loodk at dog legislation there is no law stateing that a dog out in public in the UK should be muzzled unless it is dangerous IN which case it should not be of the lead, or one of the 4 dogs listed in the dangerous dogs act 1911
