My kitten is 24 weeks old and I leave the dry food out for her all day....she can have as much as she wants anytime she wants.  I give her 3 oz of wet food every morning.  Fresh water is also always out.  I also give her a few kitty treats in the evening.  She weighs 4.8 pounds and the vet says she is doing superbly!  Her coat is soft and shiny.  I worry that I'm not feeding her enough but the vet said to keep doing what we are doing.  Hope that helps you.

Look at the bag or can it should have instructions on what to feed your kitten. Not everyone leaves food out all the time, my cat was a pig and if I left it out he would consume it until he threw up. If he ever went off his feed I knew it and could tell when he wasn't feeling quite right and his food was one indicator to his health, (also he didn't get to fat either, refering to previously what I said he would do..lol), Ask your vet , he might be able to tell you or give a guideline.
