Was listening to the radio earlier this morning and they were talking about samplers. I thought they were talking about embroidery but apparently not, they are something to do with music and recording.How sad is that.

It's a bit different to plagiarism in that I'm pretty sure artists/record companies acknowledge and pay for the samples.
Many dance records over the last 25 years have used samples- some songs have been sampled many times- eg Toto's Africa. I enjoy trying to remember where i've heard snippets before
