Our big old boy, 15yrs, not been well for some time. Swollen face tonight so we took him to the vet. Mouth ulcerated and now weighs 2.5kg (was 6.2). 'Easy' decision - but he was such a lovely boy.
Went so peacefully in my arms, so why can't I stop crying.

As you can see jakep, the AB is chock full of pet lovers who understand and send out their love and sympathy. Whenever you start to love someone, or something, there is pain at the end of it. That is what you accept when you begin a relationship with a pet, but it doesn't make the parting one tiny bit easier. Loving your pet properly is about knowing when it is time to...

I'm so sorry, Jake. We had to make the same decision for one of our Cavaliers in January. He was only 4, but had a viral haemmorhage(?). Happened so suddenly, he was out on a walk that morning. We were absolutely devastated. I still miss him.
So sorry x
Because you are sad to lose him. Every sympathy Jake.
So sorry to hear your news jakep, you can't stop crying because you've lost your beloved friend most pet owners on site will know just how you feel, we've all experienced it. You'll never forget him but it will gwt easier and soon you'll be able to remember him with a smile.
You did the right thing, still miss my dog even though I had him put down 20yrs ago. I'm a 6'2" ex rugby player and I still blubbed like a child.
To be honest, if you wasn't crying, then I'd be asking "why not?"
I've been what you've been through, approx 5 years ..... my baby was 13 and just like yourself, it was an easy decision to make.
Now I'm no softy, but it hit me hard ....... I still think about her now and again, even though we've got 2 Yorkies, I think of her from time to time.
Don't fight it, if you're crying, don't hold it in ..... time is a great healer ...........

So very sorry to hear your sad news. x
So sorry for your loss. Big hug.xx
As a loving caring responsible pet owner, its one of the hardest decisions you ever have to make. You have my sympathy jake xx
It helped me to make a "Memorial Album" of photographs, vaccination records, pedigree, vet's bills, etc. etc. It was a sort of biography of his life.
You are crying because you loved him and he loved you. Take time to grieve properly and ignore any idiots who say "it was only a dog", he was your friend - regardless of species. x

Thank you all so much. He was a big bruiser of a cat who came to us from rescue when he was 5. Had been out from and returned to Battersea twice before he chose us. We were asked if we were sure we wanted him. Gave us months of trouble, always treated him with love, paid us back thousand fold.
We lost Max about 18 months ago and I still miss him especially about this time of night as soon as Trish went to bed he'd come and go to sleep across my feet as if to make sure I couldn't sneak of anywhere with out him. It's times like this I really miss my furry foot warmer.
So sorry to hear your sad news but glad that you stayed with him to comfort him at the end. Been there a few times and it's awful, nothing quite like losing a pet who has given you unconditional love throughout its life. Be kind to yourself. X
Awww sorry to hear your sad news, Jakep.
Our pets are extended family members and we love them unconditionally. You have every right to be sad and cry.

Sad news. Take care.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal that has been especially close to someone here passes on, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, jakep.

Sending hugs.
I apologise for thinking that you had a dog. I typed my last post with my little girl (Princess Slasher - sister of my avatar) on my arms and stomping on the keyboard.

Cats are little animals with huge personalities and egos. It will be strange for you to open the fridge and have no cat appear by your side. Wishing you all the best - talk about him (what is his name?) to family, friends and, of course, your AB family.
So sorry to hear this, jakep. Remember all the happy times with him.
