Gotta be called Lucky, well he's lucky to have found you isn't he.
Two years ago I had to have my very dear 14 year old black tom put to sleep as his organs were giving up. He was called James and I'd be delighted if you would call your sad black cat James in his memory.

may well do Spikey
I had an all black cat (about 13 years ago) who we called Ebony.
Lucky....to have found you.
If you decide to call him James would you give him a second name to please, Tommy after our much loved 12 year old tom cat that went missing in January.
You could always go for the tradition Sooty or just to be different Spotty.
If I had a black cat I would call him Mandela.

Lucky black cat.
apart from 2 "rescue" cats obtained from CPL, every cat that's ever lived here (and there have been a few) has just arrived and stayed. the latest was last summer, she arrived pregnant and produced 3 delightful kittens, so there are currently 6 residents. their senure always starts with well-intentioned attempts to find their real homes, so the cats are given "silly" sounding names that aren't intended to last, but perfectly sum up the individual - there was a ginger cat called "Frank" (after frank cooper's marmalade), and a cat called florence (she was called dougal-cat because of a very fluffy resemblance to a certain cartoon dog, but turned out to be a girl)

so a name may well suggest itself.....
Awww, what a lovely thing you're doing, can't help with a name, but im sure she won't mind whatever you call her as long as you're providing a home for her :-)
