I love planning a holiday, love packing for a holiday, hate the airport (anxiety levels starting to increase), absolutely HATE flying (anxiety levels through the roof) but love getting to the destination - as long as I'm with my family! :-)
As for sarnies on the plane, I have done this for the kids, yes. A couple of times I've known no meals would be provided, but mainly because they wouldn't eat the airline food.

We do "last minute" holidays because we are so disorganised and normally have child contact issues to sort out. Thus last year, we bought tent the day before we left and drove in the general direction of Cornwall, whilst I was phoning campsites to find one that had room.
The year before, we bunged a load of stuff in the car and headed towards Scotland. I'd booked the first two nights in a hotel and thereafter we made it up as we went along.
It's quite good fun not knowing where you are going to end up. Although this year I've said I want to be a bit more organised. That is just not going to happen, I know.
