What Animal Should I Get?

My son wants "a pet" for his birthday.

No dogs, or cats, or anything that stinks.

Hamsters and gerbils stink. They are definitely a no-no.

I was thinking goldfish too. What about a small tortoise? Do they smell? Do they take a lot of looking after?

Not to be rude but all animals take a certain degree of looking after and most of them, including fish have a habit of creating pongs. Just tell him no.

How about a cockatiel. Not very expensive and easy to learn to talk.

dorromay, I don't think that's a 'bad attitude'. I just don't want my home stinking of animals. Nowt wrong with that.

No tropical fish. I've got something about them. It would need to be a single fish, in a bowl.

I agree not to get a dog - horrible smelly nuisances.

But don't rule out cats.

Sorry, I shouldn't have made the comment about looking after it, I don't mind that, but I don't want something that will need cleaning out (on a large scale) every day.
