Don't worry naomi with two ornithologists in the family that's no problem in our house or my son's (County bird recorder) :-)
I'm going down the park later to feed them (proper food, not bread)

I can't put feed out in my garden because of the cat and the other local cats.
We have several bird feeding stations in our garden so rest assured they are well fed and well happy,Good of you to remind us naomi24.
I always feed them Naomi - a lot of them around this morning looking for food.
and the squirrels
Birds have stopped visiting me for their breakfast and baths ... where have they gone?
They do well in our wild garden, they pinch the chicken food!!
Just topped up our feeders and put a bit on the ground for birds.
Blooming pidgeon is making a meal of all the tit bits!
My mother always has bird feeder equipment in her garden.

I live in a first floor flat, therefore no garden however, i have fed the swans and ducks on the river in town this mirning
excel I also live in a first floor flat but I feed the birds everyday and watch them feeding close up. Treat yourself to one of these and fill it with sunflower hearts and hopefully, like me, you will get Robins, Greenfinches, a Chaffinch, Blue/Great/Coal Tits and possibly Blackcaps or even Goldfinches. Your local garden centre will be sure to sell a window feeder, probably cheaper than this one. Make sure you get one with a pointed roof so the Pigeons and Magpies can't sit on it and frighten the songbirds off. In Spring when the babies are born you can put live meal worms in it. Worth every penny.

What an excellent suggestion ladybirder, thank you.

I shall investigate as soon as i am able

(i had no idea such things existed)
We always feed our birds. One nut feeder and one fat ball feeder. I love to see them flocking around them each day. x
I have lots of different feeders in my garden love watching the birds. Also buy bags of mixed fruit they love it.
Harumph - I am being plagued by parakeets frightening off the little birds, (13 this afternoon,) and damaging the feeders.
I usually put fat balls out at the end of the garden, past two years we've had a squirrel who frightened the birds away, but brought in a rat from somewhere and a few mice. Fortunately a long way from my back door, so this year I'll let them find somewhere else.
ladybirder. \Thanks for the link. Just ordered one.
Buying a half pint of maggots from the fishing tackle shop will bring in the robins in a flash.
I always feed the birds. I have a robin that comes when I whistle and will take those fruit suet pellets from my hand.
We had a robin would come and eat from our hands as well Prudie. It's lovely when a wild thing comes and spends a little time with you (even if it is only cupboard love!)
really prudie? You are so so lucky. I'd love the robins to eat out of my hand.
i think I'll try and buy some maggots --brilliant idea isnt it .
