61/2 Week Old Kitten?

I got a kitten last night. The owners said she was weaned, using the litter tray and eating both solid and wet food. They said she could be taken away last night due to these things.
I have now found out she is 6 weeks old and although everything the owners said is true I am worried she has been separated from the mum too soon.

She is going to be a housecat as I live in a flat and I have had her for 1 night and she was fine. She slept, ate and used the litter tray but is very shy - apart from this morning when she was very playful.

As she has been separated from her mother now - would it do more harm than good to take her back to her mum for another few weeks? Or is she better to remain separated now - would it confuse her?

Or should I wait and see if how she adjusts and take it from there?

I have had 2 cats before but got them as adult cats so kittens are new to me.

any advice but would be great.

thanks

I had a kitten about this age - I was unaware how young he was. I kept him and just took extra care of him. He slept with me and I fed him regular and just acted like his mum really. He grew up lovely and was a very affectionate cat toward me I guess because I was mum.

She sounds like she will be just fine =)
I have been given kittens at 6 weeks old and never had any problems although I now find that the ideal age to take them from mum is 8 weeks.I would say if she is using her litter tray and eating and sleeping OK she should be fine.Good luck with her,I bet she is adorable.
Just make sure you teach her how to use the litter box and how to cover her business in there etc... When I got my kitten he had no idea what to do bless him until we taught him.
sorry jan, I thought it said 612 week old kitten...lol

Thanks for the advice.
She does seem fine but when I found out how young she was I paniced. I looked online and everything I read said they should not be seperated from their mum until they are 8-10 weeks old. If they are it can cause behavioural problems later down line.
All your advice has helped me relax a bit more I'll just need to give her lots of extra love and attention - which won't be hard.
Her name is Daisy and she is a black & white moggy - gorgeous!

Thanks again
Kittens just like kids need discipline. If Daisy is naughty make sure you tell her. Our last kitten was a little bugger - no matter what you did he would still misbehave. In the end I got a water gun (not nice but effective) and also just used the tactic of ignoring him when he was naughty. He soon learned. He is lovely now.

I am sure Daisy will be just fine... Maybe we can get a pic as an avatar soon?
I agree...she should be fine, particularly as she seems to have settled in already. She will most likely bond very well with you now....a plus if she is to be a house cat. Good luck.
Size and development are more important, if she's pretty big and obviously alert and curious and eating kitten food ok then she'll be fine
