I had two kittens (half brother and sister) they had never been apart and were really close (4 yrs old now). They are house cats and unfortunately the female cat died very unexpectedly in January. I am just about now ready to think about having a 'friend' for Rimet - any suggestions should it be another female or would a male be ok, and would a couple of kittens be ok? Feeling really guilty about having another cat now Jules has gone, but think it is only fair that Rimet has a friend!

hey juleelules, I'd say go for it. I had 2 kittens from cats protection a few years ago and they gave us so much fun, then Jet died suddenly at 10 months. Sister Amber was really depressed. I know that is anthropomorphising, but she was. Just curled in a ball and slept all day. We went back to Cats Protection and got Minnie. Immidiatlly Amber became a kitten again, played with Minnie and groomed her and curled up and slept with her. It was a joy to see. I know all cats are different but it worked for us, and we were able to give another cat a home

Thanks for your response frankie - I really want to have another friend for Rimet, I know he is lonely, but I stll miss Jules so much - but will definitely go for it - have seen two female kittens ready for a new home. I have always thought about rescue cats but not sure how an older cat would settle in to being a house cat - again your advise would be well appreciated
the thing to do is talk to the people at Cats Protection. They really know their stuff. They obviousley don't want to place cats in the wrong homes. When Minnie arrived my 3 previous rescues hissed and spat for a day or so but we kept Minnie in a room on her own and introduced her gradually, and after a week or so everybody relaxed. She is a very confident little lady and soon settled in. Just ask lots of questions

thanks again Frankie - your local CPL must be much better than mine - I have emailed them on numerous occasions to be a 'foster parent' and not even received an acknowledgement - but will try again as I think it is important for a cat, particularly a house cat to have a companion - love the Swedish human rights rule extended to animals!
hey juleejules I;m really sorry the CPL arn't up to scratch (joke( in your area. here in Somerset they are brilliant. To such an extent I think I have Muggins for a kitten tatooed on my face. as I never seem to leave the shelter without a kitten!!!! But they are always the right kitten for us. Maybe go along and visit them rather than e mail.Tho' that is emotionally dangerous. Who can resist a kitten
Question Author
hi Frankie - can you send a piccy of your tat? know what you mean about trying to resist a kit - my daughter (nearly 20) says to go get a friend for Rim - but miss Jules hope she doesn't mind - am I a sad cat female?
My brother calls me "crazy cat lady". I only have two cats!
Hi juleejules, would love to send photos of my cats, ( I'm like a proud grandma with my cats, how sad!) but I'm a bit of a Luddite and don't have the technology Using answerbank is the most technological thing I've ever done!
My vet says you have to have five or more cats to be a 'mad cat lady'! lol. Visit CPL & explain your problem they will be supportive & may provide the option of returning a 'trial' cat if Rimet objects. I'm sorry you are still missing your girl Jules but from personal experience another cat may be just what you all need - you'll still remember all the good stuff only more so. x
