Do dogs have to go backwards and forwards looking for the right place to do their buisness. This morning it was freezing cold and I must have spent a good few minutes waiting for my dog to go.

Well...you've just gotta find the RIGHT spot.
It's a doggie thing!
One of the joys of responsible dog ownership. Well done you for sticking with it!
well, when i visit a public bathroom i will go from stall to stall to find the cleanest one. If i had to go outdoors i would check for just the right spot that was free of nettles or prickly things and if it had the aroma of another doggies urine more the better.

Same, Mikala!
Jack, my Collie boy, likes to take me halfway back up the hill, nose to the ground (his not mine!) before he finds just the right place to go.

Never thought of it like that. I avoid public loos if I can but occasionlly it is not possible. And yes I don't go into the first cubicle I come to. I check to see which one looks clean and make sure the toilet is flushed before I use it. So thinking about it, perhaps their behavior isn't so strange after all.

Sometimes feel as though I've walked half a mile along the same stretch of grass before my female shih tzus will get just the right place. Obviously, it's not just any blade of grass will do! Bless 'em!!
