Can't get up in the morning!

I HATE MORNINGS! I really, really struggle to get up - I am now thinking that I have got myself into a routine that isn't helping the situation.

I have to be up at 7 but set my alarm clock 20 mins fast so although it still goes off at 7 I know it is actually 6.40 and I can press snooze for 20 mins. However, for those 20 mins in between snoozing I work out how I can spend more time in bed - what I can 'miss out on' so I can get more kip, except I don't really sleep during this time so it is pretty pointless.

Ultimately I usually end up being late because I have not left enough time to get ready! I'm thinking I should ban myself from pressing snooze and take a leaf out of my husbands book which is to get up as soon as the alarm goes off but don't know how I am going to get out of a habit of a lifetime!

I am exactly the same i cant wake up in the morning i have to be at work for 9 in the morning and the latest iv got up is 8.30 i just cant seem to motivate myself to move i think just another 5 mins in bed even though im not sleeping ! my alarm goes of about 6 times before i get up!
My wife is exactly the same and she's tried everything from going to bed at 8.00 o'clock at night for a month to NLP and nothing has altered her. She wakes up and moans and groans for half an hour that she doesn't want to get up and finally leaves it so late that she's never on time for anything.
oh and i no for a fact that WHISKEYSHERI cant get up in the morning lol!!
My radio alarm is set for 6:40 but I did not hear it till 7:15 this morning. I am just the same - I don't do mornings. Early nights don't work either. Consequently I tend to drive too fast to try and catch up and end up with terrible road rage lol!

Sorry we're not being much help are we!!!
I am also guilty of this :( & I have two children to get to school!! Half the time with me I dont even hear the alarm though so have to get someone to ring me aswell, like yesterday for example I set two alarms for 7.45 & asked my friend to phone me @ 8.00 when I finally woke at 8.40 not only had I slept through both alarms I also had 7 missed calls :( Yet this morning I heard the alarm straight away & got up @ 8. (still fell victim to the snooze button)
Nicky, I am exactly the same too! I'm late for work pretty much on a daily basis because I try to find reasons to stay in bed. I don't know how I've kept my jobs over the years! Im just so groggy and tired in the mornings and just cant get motivated. It doesnt help that Im not too inspired by my job right now.

But like you, I set my clock a bit fast, then end up staying in bed regardless. Ive never been capable of getting up as soon as the alarm goes off. So if you find the answer, Id be interested to know! x
Oi, Sam! I'm here, aren't I? ;o)

I am quite bad actually. I don't get up until 8, but I do work through my lunch hour so I can get up later... :o)
you no i love ya whiskey ! mwah xx
I used to be like this as well so came up with a cunning plan of having one alarm clock by my bed and another one across the other side of the room and have them going off 5 mins apart. First one wakes me up slightly and then if I go to drift off again the other one goes off and I have to get up to turn it off, works for me anyways!
Get 2 alarm clocks, both digital so you can synchronise the times and alarms. Put one in your bedroom out of reach of your bed, so that you have to get out of bed and go across the room to switch the alarm off. Have the second in the bathroom, so that when you have switched the first alarm off, you are forced to go to the bathroom to switch the second alarm off. While in there, jump in the shower or head in the sink.
Thinner curtains, so the morning light helps you wake up? Works for me. For a long time I struggled with the evil of snooze, until I had an east-facing bedroom window.
You can even get alarms which work by turning a light on, increasing the brightness so that you wake up gradually, rather than with a start.

Isn't it strange...all my working life I was always scrambling around at the last minute to get to work ..take children to school etc. I was a proper bedbug ! Alarm clocks were the bane of my life.Mr.S could just get up and go whilst I staggered around like a zombie.
Now I have retired more often than not I am up at the crack of dawn with no need for an alarm clock !
I used to have the clock across the room so I was forced to get out and turn the horrible beeping monster off !
LMAO @ Minty!!! Thanks for your compassion there! hahaha!

If you're game, Nicky, I'll try an exercise with you. For the whole of next week we'll force ourselves to get up out of bed as soon as our alarms go off (we have to set them for a reasonable time too!). I think we simply need to force ourselves out of bed and out of a rut. Fancy trying it?

Ok Champagne - I'll give it a go! We can compare our progress!!!

Am glad I am not the only one that feels like this that's for sure!

Ward~Minter - I am sure you're right, unfortunately discipline doesn't kick in until 9am earliest and I have to be at work by 8! As for the other comments:

Do you suffer sleep apnea? What?
Do you grind your teeth? Have no idea - I am asleep!
Is your blood pressure too high? No
Is your mattress comfortable? Yes thank you
Is your caffeine intake too high? No - only have about 2 cups of tea per day
Do you go to bed in good time? Yes, but often it will take me an hour plus to get to sleep
Do you eat too near bed? No, I tend to eat in my lounge or kitchen! Sorry! Serious answer is probably yes, sometimes only an hour and a half before bed
Are you anxious? Sometimes
Are you just a lazy cow? Absolutely!!!!!!!!!

Alfiebrady - I do have really thin curtains but thanks for the suggestion anyway - it's not that I don't wake up, it's just the fact I don't want to get up!

Are you ready for this challenge then Champagne - starting Monday?!

For me, still being a kid (yay!), i get shouted at until I get up, which is a better motivator. But a few times, I have to get up on my own. I went to a summer school once for 3 weeks. I used two alarms, putting one by my bed, and the other on the otherside of the room. It worked perfectly for about 4 days, and then i either never bothered to get the second alarm, or quickly turning it off and jumping back into bed.

I would love to be a morning person. Waking up and being full of energy and life, but it just doesn't work, it takes about 2hours until i'm fully awake and ready to start the day.

Thank God for Sundays!
Okay NicNac!! You're on! :oD

Damn! What have I got myself into? I bet I get lots of sarky comments from collegues for turning up on time (assuming I do, of course). :o)

Let's keep a chart of our week's progress and we'll post on here next Friday morning. Deal?

Ok champers - am quite scared! The question is do I set my alarm clock to the real time - and if I do, will I forget and think I have another twenty mins sleep!

I think I may have to post on here everyday though - I need to know you are at least trying the challenge, won't be able to wait til Friday! I have to have some incentive to continue! This could be the start of something BIG - a new morning routine FOREVER! Anyone else want to join the challenge?!
i'll lend you both my cat, my alarm goes of at 7 and she knows that when i get up the first thing i do is feed her, so she gives me so much grief that it easier to get up as soon as the alarm goes of rather than lie in bed and be attacked. no charge she have you trained in under a week guaranteed the claw in nostril and claw head massage very effective techniques.
