Pet snake owners are overfeeding their charges. Snakes can survive on one meal a year yet their owners are feeding them every day - and they're getting unhealthily fat.

Did you know: There are over 700,000 pet snakes in Britain.

Madness, dont they also cost a few bob burning heat bulbs, or am i getting carried away?

I was visiting Yahoo earlier and saw this.  I would have thought that most exotic pet owners would have done their homework.  They are ot cheap pets.  I would have thought they would be pretty boring.

I like snakes, but they dont appeal to me as pets and I think it's quite cruel to keep them imprisoned in tanks.

A life of no exercise, very bad and crule.

I handled a snake at Edinburgh Zoo.  It was a good experience.

I would prefer a pet to have a personality.

I had a hugevsnakevwrappedvroundvmevin Morocco and handled a boa constrictor in an Australian zoo. My big brave son is  really freaked out by snakes!!

Sorry about all the  v's.  I'm struggling with my keyboard!!

It's probably a good idea to keep them sated. Don't want them getting out and making a meal of their owner while they slept at night.

Too many snakes are being released by owners who no longer want to care for them.  I have read of at least three large snakes being rescued by West Midlands Police and RSPCA/zoos/experts in the last few months.
