When I have a litter of pups they get nicknames before they go to their new homes - often taken from tv at the time. Deidre, when she was in jail. Ainsley and Malachi from Pop Idol, Charlie Church who used to throw back his head and howl every time Charlotte Church came on. Currently have Haribo, Marlene, Little Nelly and Rio who was born during the Olympics. Mattie (Matt Finnish as his mum Fizz is from Finland). Fizz is ginger coloured!

Lankeela....that's really interesting and fun........love Charlie Church!
Harvey, he's a Pooka ,:-)
Well I originally called my little darling Carat. Because he was orange/gold and a total nugget. But my mother said to me that I couldnt call a sweet little kitten like him that. So he got called ASBO. Although that is only his nickname. His real name is George.
tigger because he was cute and stripey
First cat called Tiger from Lulu's song, then Lola from the Kinks song.
Son - in - law called their cat Donna because his favourite food was a Doner Kebab!
Oooooh! YES! YES! YES! ( sqad rubs his hands, stamps his feet and jumps up and down in excitement)..do let's have a "Let's have a pet name thread"

I have two pet names for Mrs sqad.....Wally and Toss.
Question Author
Sqad....should you be doing three things at the same time?.... ;-)...x
my brothers cats are called fluffy and messi, after the footballer...
And we can only surmise what her "pet name" is for you, Sqad ;)
LOL......off to my club now.
We once got a ginger tom, runt of the litter, who got named Fluffy by the daughter. Oh how wrong were we? Turned into the biggest, toughest street fighter there was. Even he must have despaired when being called in from his kingdom - ruined his street cred.
At 15 he decided he'd had enough and adopted a family about 400 yards; we still see him and about every 3 months he comes in for something to eat and drink and clears off again.
Found a puppy in a derelict garage, very hungry, very smelly and very very frightened....he came home and stayed for 14 years... He was named Sir Tramp and he had both our surnames....the Tramp because he was one but the Sir and double barrelled surname because he deserved it....such a gentle dog!
Gness, I really really want you to get BA for that one. I'm still laughing.
Awe, don't go sqad .
My cat was called Gladys. She was a stray and when my Mum saw here she said " Oh she looks just like Gladys from our Chapel", so that became her name! Turns out she was pregnant and had three beautiful ginger kittens who I named Hector, Harriet and Hamish
Glady from the chapel was pregnant and had kittens?
well, I never !!

Our first kitty was Snowball, well, pure white and blue eyes, his pal, Tootsie, she came with that name and was a bad-tempered lady, Furdy, named by the sons purely cos he had loads of fur.
Mine also answers to:-

"you lazy ***"
"you little ****"
"Pain in the ****"
"Ginga Ninja"
"little man"
"no"
Alfie was adopted in Spain and that's the name the charity gave him.

Phoebe was actually called Charlie but I didn't like it so I changed it.
Called one of my cats Boris. Reykjavik 1972 Boris Spassky v Bobby Fischer(RIP). Great Fischer fan (me, that is, not the cat), but felt sorry for Spassky having to put up with Fischer's spoilt brat antics.

Twenty years later got two cats from a girl at work who was a Cats' Protection League volunteer, and decided to name them - purely from a whim - after Latin poets. So we had, no - not a Catullus), but a Horace and a Virgil with us for a long time.

Then an abandoned cat whom my wife had been feeding and named Mitzi got herself duffed up and gave birth in a neighbour's shed. One day she marched her two (remaining?) kittens down our garden path and into our house. They took to footy, spending hours knocking one of those little plastic balls with a bell inside about, and my wife named them after two of her favourite footballers, the one with the black and white stripes Shearer, and the one with ManU's black away strip Beckham. Beckham and Shearer both girls, by the way.
