Maybe that freezing thing they did with Stallone in Demolition Man and u have to thaw them out when they get to you.
Seriously, we bought fish from a breeder hundreds of miles away, and my father had to pick them up at the airport! They came sedated in bags of water.

I seriously thought that Ebay did not deal with livestock of any sort.  Interesting this.

..... and I now find this.  Ebay must have changed their rules.

I'm not totally sure I aprove either FP, why I'm asking

From ebay.co.uk

"Live animals or pets other than the exceptions noted here, may not be listed on eBay. The sales of the following items are permitted, provided that the seller guarantees in the listing that the animals will be packaged safely and posted via next day delivery.

 - Aquarium or pond fish, snails or similar creatures.
 - Lobsters, crabs, shellfish and other similar creatures that are live when sold but intended for human consumption.
 - Live insects, crickets and worms used as bait or feeder food for pets."

I still don't really think it's nice though!

Oh ta zippy, no i'm not sure about the whole business either. Think i'll stick to getting them from my local pet shop :-)

Hi Boo, I think the seller is fairly explicit about the delivery - he's sending the fish by courier. It seems fair enough to me.

As for buying from your local pet shop, how do you think they receive their fish stocks?

A few months back, when I was setting up my tank, I was trawling (no pun intended !) around my local-ish aquarist shops on one day. Every shop I went to seemed to be having their live stock delivery - and it was always the same driver!

Basically, the orders are made up at the suppliers and shipped out the next day to the shops. It seems all the aquarists in my area receive deliveries from this supplier on the same day. The fish are all packed up in polystyrene cases to preserve heat, and the water is injected with a dose of oxygen to see them through.

I thought the seller seemed to know what he was doing, and seemed to have it all set out pretty well, explaining exactly what you get, what he'll do and what the buyer needs to have ready at the other end!

I didn't give that a thought my little fossilised shell like friend!

You calling me an old fossil !!!?

;o)

Question Author
Nope, but I believe you call yourself that ;-)

Normally when fish are delivered this way, the supplier will dispatch 10% extra in case any fish are lost.  Is there any guarantee if the fish don't survive?
