... he escaped from his cage on the way back from the vets this evening. OH and I have spent six hours combing the thick hedges, to no avail. He's either lying very low or has legged it (and is hopefully doing the Incredible Journey and finding his way back home..) - we are sad. We're going back up there first thing in the morning.

I am sorry to hear that, I hope you are reunited soon.
Any cat called Rover..........ought to be able to find his way home !

I'm sure, after teaching you a lesson overnight for putting him in his cage, he'll be back safe and sound and calling for his breakfast ! :o)
that's terrible boxy, I feel so sorry for you.....did he escape near home ?
I know how you feel it's horrible, we had a happy reunion with our naughty escapee I hope you find yours soon.
Hope you find him soon boxy. Take a tin of tuna with you when you go looking again.
Oh dear, poor thing. How did he get out of his cage?

Thanks folks - the vets is about three miles away, and we only changed to the new vets in January, he's only been there twice, but we're hoping he has sixth sense.

We're going back with some Felix in the morning..... he came to us as a stray so I know he can fend for himself, but that was ten years ago, and he's on medication. The vet says he can go a while without it with no problems and thankfully he had a clean bill of health today - just as well.....
So sorry to hear this boxtops, but don't despair, he may well be on his merry way home right now, I had a cat a few years ago, we moved home, about 15 miles away, I kept him indoors for about a week before letting him into the garden, all was fine for about three days, then he went missing!..........We searched and searched for him, to no avail!...........then on the fifth day he turned up, very hungry and dirty, at the old home!..........We brought him back, and from then on he settled in really well!...........
Boxy, try not to worry. After his cunning plan to escape he will probably have laid low for a bit. Keep going out and calling him. Fingers crossed he will come home. Is where he escaped very far from yours?

My ASBO went missing for several weeks a couple of years back - came home eventually and he's never left me since!!!!

He got out when the lid wasn't fully fastened before we put him back in the car...
oh box, im sorry, i really hope he returns soon.
Sorry, cross posting.

Keep us posted though. I know exactly how sad and worried you are feeling right now.
Sorry to hear that. Have you got a local community website? You could put a message out on that. I often see notices on trees/postboxes around here from owners who have lost their cats. I hope he turns up soon.
Boxtops, he's livedwith you for 10 years, and escaped 3 miles away, he should find his way back, or stay near to where he escaped, either way, I'm sure you'll find him!.................good luck!..........let us know how you go!...........

If we can'd find him in the morning, I'm going to flyer all the offices on the site where he went missing (it's a sort of industrial estate with fields round, ideal for mousing). I just need to clear with the cat insurance company that I can offer a reward, which might help. He is microchipped.
Good luck is all I can say, Boxi....

suggest some 'posters' with his criminal mug-shot up around where he escaped Stalag "Ford"
I am wishing Rover returns soon too boxtops.
If nothing tomorrow, try putting a call into local vets, pet rescue centres and cats protection league - they are usually extremely helpful.
Thanks for the info on micro-chipping - that will seriously help. My mother just about now needs it as to dementia
OMG, boxtops, hope you find Rover. When Meg bunked off I was distraught, she turned up t'other side of the M6, how she crossed it god only knows. Fingers crossedxx
