I've just had my Car's renewal Quote, £337.00, £100 up on a Quote I have searched for with the exact Legal Cover / P.N.C. Courtesy car Etc. It has take a three hour search, It's with the AA, Well M&S, you have lost another customer. This might help some with their Insurance renewal Quotes.

...and next year you'll be saying the same about the AA. Insurance these days is all about attracting new customers and hoping apathy keeps them. Essentially they are offerin a discount for new customers so next year they'll try and bump you up and hope you don't notice or can't be ar5sed. Sad but true, loyalty is punished in the insurance game.
danger is right

the apathetic 'loyals' are subsidising the acquisition of new customers

and this year's good deal will probably be next year's rip-off

it's a crazy spiral that all the providers have got themselves into

Next year I will be doing the same thing! Exactly. I'm afraid apathy does not keep me loyal, MONEY does, Danger.
For the last four years Direct Line has consistently been amongst the cheapest for me so I have stuck with them. Last year the premium was £20 lower than the previous year.

Don't if DL is bucking the trend or I'm lucky.
Not always the case if you're in a niche market - got two teenagers on a Ford focus and looked arount to betther the £1200 renewal, didn't find anybody else much under 2K.

But yes if you're pretty run of the mill you're normally going to get ratcheted up

That's market forces for you
You're lucky hc, I'd been with DL for about 25 years or more, never had a claim and all my other insurances were with them. My renewal last year was frankly laughable, it increased by more than £100.
I rang them to discuss this and they refused to budge, I am now with the RAC.
Thank you TWR, as usual I am in awe of your determination as a consumer rights champion, well done you!
"A sprat to catch a mackerel" comes to mind.
Just to buck the trend, my insurance is through my bank and this year's premium is DOWN £120 on last year. It may be the magical 5 years no claims threshold that's done it, but I hadn't expected such a big reduction.

frugalfred, If you call a £100+ a Sprat, you must be made of money.

Anax, I was with Churchill for quite a few years, no claims, full N.C.B. Loyalty meant sod all, as they found when I left them, It's all about the proper cover & mostly cost. (Also a couple more bottles of 3 Barrels) lol
Any driver that sticks with the renewal quote is throwing money away .

plenty of insurance companies on TV say he saved £300, so did so and so but of course only if they stuck with their last insurer for years, Plonkers!

Fair enough TWR but your post indicates that you are surprised by this.

If you do a comparison search you'll find M&S are probably a lot cheaper for new punters.

I have this annual conversation with mu insurers, they change annually for the above reasons but essentuially they always call and ask if I'm renewing and I always say "no you are too expensive, I have a quote for X", they say they'll match it! I always refuse on the basis they tried to con me!
Question Author
That's the Comp I changed to from Churchill, my quote came through today, as said, £337.10 Re/ M&S, Tried the RAC / £261.11, If you want a free phone No for M&S/ 0800 0582 942
renewed my car insurance today - phoned and spoke with 'option 3' - 'if you are thinking of leaving us' and got £40 knocked off a £248 quote- I do it every year and every year they give me a discount.
I'm with Aviva.

My renewal quote last year was less than I paid the previous year.

I checked around, then renewed with Aviva again as they were competitive.
@TWR - I know what you mean. This is the first year of my motoring life when my premium hasn't been increased despite my no claims increasing. They live off the idea that a percentage of us will either not notice the increase or will just accept it the belief we'll find it just as expensive elsewhere. By and large they do take us for mugs.

Anax, take a tip from an old fart, Loyalty Means sod all in the insurance car business, keep looking around but make sure you get ALL the cover you need, do not cut corners otherwise you will come unstuck.

Cutting corners when Motoring is never a good idea!
Last year my M&S quote was well above the previous year, so I started looking around, and guess who came up as best for me? Only M&S, but lower than renewal quote. When I contacted them, they offered me the online figure.
