The ability to smile ingratiatingly and lie convincingly
The ability to lie with sincerity..............
buying me wine helps
The ability to treat lone women buyers as total idiots and ramp the price up
Obsequiousness LOL
The ability to state that 'your' car is the wrong colour - they don't sell. The wrong model - the GTS V8 GT hardtop was a much better option. Regular servicing and cleanliness never seems to pay off, all they ever do is consult the little guide and that is what its worth.
Are there any sincere salespersons out there? I doubt it otherwise they would be nurses or lollipop men.
Being a bit of a spiv helps!
There was the car salesman who fell into a shark infested sea. The reason he wasn't eaten was - professional courtesy
seriously my main dealer buys me wine, he's great :-)

Buying a car is like making love to a beautiful woman...
Don't do this.......

When a lone woman arrives for a pre-booked test drive, don't look at her and as incredulously 'are you on your own, you haven't brought anyone with you????'

Then do not walk over to you colleague and request the keys for the car to be tested, who replies sotto voce ' don't let her look in the boot, it's full of all my camping equipment'.

I walked out.

So would you buy a car more off a sales man than a sales woman?
Man or woman it does not matter, they all have two faces.
Gender is of no importance. If you make commission from sales that make up the majority of your wages, you will just try your upmost to sell.
I so wanted to be cross about this, as my husband was a car dealer and of course I was involved too, we sold many many over the years. Mostly by word of mouth or people asking for a specific model.

However, I have also met all the stereotypes mentioned above, from the sheepskin coat and dark glasses sort, to the shabby suited pseudo toff.

As a postscript, could write chapters on strange customers too, wheel kickers, corner bouncers etc etc
i don;t care, i put the orders through them, they buy me stuff, that's the deal. Rich is great he often pops by with a bacon sarnie
