I would like someone to explain what this song is about, i have ideas but am not entirely sure. I have seen the explanation posted on here but am still not entirely convinced, can you explain how the lyrics point towards it being from a mother to her daughter.

It was written for a film called She's having a baby. About a young couple that fall in love and she gets pregnant. I think at the time the baby is unwanted because the couple need time to themselves. The lyrics are aimed at the young father. Probably better to watch the film and get the drift.
