Yahoo said 30 years the cheapskates:-(
They said something similar last year and all we got was a light dusting of snow, nothing to speak of. It was a very mild winter.
I thought it was The Express who were obsessed with the weather (and Lady Diana)
It is winter, guess what? it is going to be colder than usual.

I think the Mirror must be teamed up with British Gas.
I suppose if we all wrap ourselves up in woolly jumpers and sheepskins as we usually do it could be called Global Warming.! :-)

I'll just go and sit in M&S café all day with one cuppa, take me own cake, and newspaper, crossword book. ;0)
Well, I remember 1963 and it was pretty fierce. Since I am committed to driving 57 miles each way every Monday until the end of March to pick-up my grandchildren, their mum is at Hull university training to become a teacher and earn some cash following divorce, I am rather worried by the thought of X-country and snow. Mulling over snow-tyres - but it costs such a lot. :(
Jourdain2 would not bother with snow tyres, can you keep to major roads that will be gritted even if it makes your journey a bit longer?
Bring it on, who cares , we’ll survive
Look at the harsh conditions in Russia and the Arctic circle ,we are wusses when it comes to the weather
or can there mum drop them over to you?
agree Bobbi first hint of snow or ice and country grinds to a halt. But it's not predictable in UK places like Scandinavia and Russia know they will have bad weather and can prepare accordingly.

I always ensure I have a 4x4 these days. I have been snowed in twice in the last 7 years. Purchasing a new car with that capability is an expensive option but living up North in your beautiful neck of the woods I would consider snow chains as a cheaper alternative.
Apparently it is compulsory to have alternative snow tyres in Sweden for every registered car.
I live in Newcastle, we wear jumpers in July here, haha
The Mirror, crack'd
Lol bobbi. I don't like driving in the snow, or ice, and we have a lot of short journeys to do every day, so it really doesn't help. It is also very hilly around here. Roll on spring xx
I love Autumn Pix, the colours are phenomenal xx
I don't bother with snow chains but during the winter always have a shovel, bag of grit, sleeping bag and plenty of bottled water in the car - just in case.
Autumn is great, but maybe we could skip winter... just a bit of snow on Christmas day, maybe. Can't we agree this with Brexit? I mean, what do we pay taxes for?? Lol xx
Thanks all who have given opinions. I live in a village which is 6 hilly miles from a major route (and I mean hilly - one is scary for anyone with vertigo - I was in a whiteout last year in between the 2 valleys and had to stop) so just getting to the A64 can be a problem.
Daughter cannot drop children off at mine on the way to Hull for similar reasons - also they have, by law, to be at school. School is Boston Spa area - very near the A1(M) and 50-odd miles away. Along with my sister and others doing different days, I have committed to collecting them on Mondays and holding on to them until mum arrives about 5.30 - she can use the M62. This is quite bad enough, given that I find night driving difficult so will have to sleep over once it gets dark and that means leaving Mr.J2 on his own - heart condition and he's 86 - which I don't like to do. At the very least I will stock up on food for him for a few days in case.

I always have Mars bars, water, salt and newspapers in the car in Winter (because I grew up in the Pennines). Retrocop - I wish I could afford a 4x4, but I can't. One used to get me out of trouble going Bradford/Halifax every Winter. I'll just have to cross my fingers, I think. I can't think that snow chains are really OK for that long a journey are they? Tyres might be my only choice.
